Well, it's rainy here, at least. We need the rain though, so I'm not complaining!

Ha!

It is not raining here today. Even better, it is not snowing or sleeting. Looks like it should be nice here still for the next couple of days.

Rest day for me. I'll do some arm weights and core work, but the legs get some rest. Good thing too because they are feeling yesterday's 16 miler.

Kinda had a crappy night of sleep last night. Bring on the coffay!

Morning all.

3 miles on the inside track this morning, and 10 min on the bike for cool down. Tonight is the first night for the Gentle Yoga class I'm taking. Didn't end up getting any real fitness in yesterday, but I got a lot of other things accomplished and spent lots of time with the family.

Oh, and in the interest of full disclosure, I followed my will power filled pie eating with a two pieces of cake day on Saturday :)

bOb - will you have time for a short meet-up? Lake Geneva is only 45 minutes or so from here and I'd definitely make the trip if you have time for it. Keep me posted as your plans develop. Also, are you travelling solo with your parents or bringing M & J too? I've never run LG, but I've heard it is a very challenging course (which explains the tiny field in part).

Yes, I'm going with DW and DD as well as my parents. The 5 of us are flying to Chicago together (total cost for 5 plane tickets = $900, not bad), then we'll rent a car and drive up to LG. We'll stay for 3 days in LG (which is where my dad grew up) then move on to Madison for two days (becuase my parents met at UW). Honestly, I really don't know what we're going to be doing for 5 days, other than me running the marathon that one day. I suppose we'll just take a trip down memory lane with my parents. I want to see where my dad grew up, where my grandparents worked (they died before I was born), where my parents used to hang out, etc. With them getting as old as they are, I know that if I don't learn this stuff now, I'll never learn it. So this is my last chance to learn these details about my family history, I guess...

So yeah, I should have time to meet up. Either in LG or Madison. Heck, I'd be happy to hear any suggestions about things to see and do. I see that LG has an indoor water park that looks pretty fun for DD. And Madison has a zoo. Otherwise, I'm not sure how we'll spend our time, other than reminisicing with my folks. I'll be interested, but I hope DW and DD don't get too bored...

We should probably take this off-line so we don't bore everyone else too.

As for the marathon itself... Yeah, I've read that it's a hard course. If I'm not expecting to be very fast on a flat course in Phoenix, I certainly won't be expecting to be fast in LG. It'll probably just be one where I try to avoid a PW. Whenever faced with a hard course, I always tell myself that I survived the race in Green River WY, and anything else should be a piece of cake...

Anyway, I suppose I should run today, since I took yesterday off completely. I'll do some miles tonight...

Back to work today for me. I taught at 8am... yawn... now I have plenty of students to keep me awake until a faculty meeting at 12 (yawn).

Yesterday was a very good day fitness-wise. I walked on the track with DH, did 15 min of rowing (that is no joke - good workout), and then biking for 25 min. felt good!!

Good morning all! Fun weekend of running and funning... got about 6.5 mi in on Saturday including those miles of Abbe's Whiskeython (I was 3rd overall, first female and not too upset about not winning the whiskey, it's not my liquor of choice) followed by a fun lunch and then basketball & football watching. Sunday I headed up to the Bronx and met up with a few others for some miles on the XC course in Van Cortlandt park... soooo much fun and very challenging; need to make that run happen more often! We followed up the miles with brunch in Riverdale and then spent the rest of the day lounging and loving my kitteh. This morning was an easy 6.15 mi in cooler temps although I didn't really notice as I was busy chatting w/a friend I hadn't seen in awhile. I really hope to get to the yoga studio tonight.

Kath - J currently has a bruised, swollen hand too but his is a Golden Tee related injury

Great to see Cindi and Cus and Prae all back ... we missed you!

Colleen - are you feeling any better?

Welcome home Titus!

Mindi - LOVE LOVE LOVE the quilt!!! I may have missed the explanation but are you making it as a gift, an award, other?

Ailarie - your hair looks great! There's always that first time you wash it after a big cut where you're like ... where did it all go? Have that yet?

Missy - how did the MRI go? What did the doc say?

Re: health of loved ones ... Dillon is back for another chemo treatment today but still eating and being very cuddly, so that's good. And my dad didn't end up starting another round of chemo last week, his oncologist would like to pursue his neurological issues that we always knew about but didn't seem related to a cancer diagnosis; so he'll be back at that doc in the next week or so. What this means is that it's entirely possible that dad never had cancer... and yes, he was pumped full of toxic chemicals but it's not a black & white type of diagnosis. It's upsetting and we're all feeling back to square one but we're doing it together and that's what keeps me feeling positive.

What?!? That is crazy Maria! You must all be so upset. If not cancer, what do they think it could have been? Glad Dillon is doing okay and is full of cuddles.

I am making the quilt and donating it to be auctioned off in our silent auction at the Sneaker Soiree - it is our GOTR council's biggest fundraiser. I'll be excited to see how much it goes for.

It is! I must do it wrong, though, b/c it always bothers my knees.

I love how Brandy's not-quite-100% effort gave her a 23:20 in the 5K TT. Smokin' fast!

Well, I survived my whirlwind workout weekend (say that three times fast!). Trainer class on Saturday (the first one of 12, so it was the easiest of the whole series... but all of us were whining throughout it anyway! Egad, that's a hard workout), then a zippy 7.3 miler Sunday morning (8:51 pace), followed by a recovery drink, quick shower, snack, and 90-minute Spinning class. I promised myself I would take it easy in Spinning. Three guesses how easy I took it... hahaha. I don't think I'm capable of taking it easy. My legs are dead and my butt is broken, but otherwise I feel pretty OK overall. I had a second recovery drink after Spinning and joked that I would probably GAIN weight after all the protein powder yesterday, despite nearly 3 hours of working out!

Boot camp this morning was very heavy on the cardio drills and upper body work and very light on the leg work. Not surprising!

Hoping to make it to yoga tonight, but maybe the beginner class to really take it easy and get a gentle stretch.

Marier - WTF?!????????? I mean, yay for possibly not cancer, but that is total BS. Ummmm.... yep.

Maria -- that is unbelievable.

While Theia had the trio of crushing workout days, I skipped the workout yesterday. Loser. Part of it was work. There were stretches of time when it seemed like my phone was going off every 5 minutes. We have a huge deadline today in a big case, and lots of work to be done over the weekend. Part of it was just me being a grouchy a$$hole slacker-boy.

Don't know if Theia has told you, but DD is with us for the month of January. She got to come to the office with me yesterday for a while. That was fun. Then, once we got home, other than answering the phone, responding to texts & emails constantly, I sort of took some time away from the boxes of files as well.

I spent a LOT of time in the kitchen instead. It's a great way to get my mind off things.

Made the girls some pasta for lunch. Sauteed some red onion, geen bell peppers, asparagus, garlic, and zucchini, then mixed that into the pasta with a sauce made from sundried tomoto pesto and olive oil, and parmesan cheese. It was a hit!

Dinner was the last of the leftover pumpkin mushroom soup that I made, plus a green bean dish that I made up last year for Thanksgiving and seems to go over fairly well. I'm still toying with it. It'll get better.

Other than the constant washing of dishes, the time in the kitchen is very therapeutic. Didn't get to see any of the games. . . so that blew.

Tonight -- no cooking. I am going to the gym, and then I am relaxing. At least, that's my plan.

bOb - that is awesome you will be coming to madison too. There are all sorts of great places to go. You'll have to grab a beer on the Terrace and take Jillian to the Madison Children's Museum (one of the best in the country).

Beautiful day in NYC on Saturday - mid January and did not even need a coat (did have a fleece vest). I have become semi-obsessed with making home made bread lately, and one of the recipes that I hit on that really worked for me is from a bakery in midtown, so DW and I stopped there to grab some lunch. We went to Bryant Park and did a little shopping. They have all sorts of stores there and an ice skating rink for the holidays. One of the stores is run by one of my best friends. Manhattan has the best people watching - I grabbed a beer, and DW and I sat down, enjoyed the sights, and ate our lunch. We then wandered about midtown, checking out Rockefeller Center, St. Pat's etc. Eventually had a delicious dinner at a Lebanese place on 8th Ave, and then off to see the show. Show was wonderful, DW was very thankful for her Christmas gift, and we crashed at my in-laws. They watched the kids for us. Sun AM we hit the road, put away all of the decorations in the morning and sat down to watch the Giants at 1 PM on the dot. And that went pretty well too.

Fitness wise, I did not do anything over the weekend (except for a ton of walking in the city Saturday), but that was planned. Last week was a transition week, and I worked out 4 days straight (Tuesday-Friday), and was dealing with a lot of DOMS, which I anticipated. Today, I get back at it, and the plan is to work out six days this week.
