Morning peeps. I got up early as usual, but am working and then will go for my run when the sun rises and the boys go to school. It has been too nice lately to run in the dark and cold, when I know if I just wait a bit it will be in the 40s and sunny! Must enjoy this while I can!

Any fun plans for the weekend?

Greetings, RIL!

I'm not scheduled for a run today. Part of me thinks I should get a short one in, but another thinks that rest would be nice. Hrm.

Weekend plans: Highlight for me is getting a haircut. While I'll still have long hair in the traditional sense, I'm tired of the current length and will be trying something a little different.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Weekend plans = packing. Not sure what else yet.

I want to go back to bed. I have 12 students on my schedule (just about the max we can handle) and just the thought of it makes me tired.

Hiya, gals. TGIF!

No weekend plans here. Which, after a few busy weekends in a row, is perfectly fine with me.

I did a 7 mile fartlek last night. I guess I'll hit the pool for a swim tonight..

Good morning. My friends are OK, thank goodness. Finally got a text back at 10 p.m. Turns out it took place 3 blocks from where it was originally reported, so still way too close for comfort but not on their block. Another friend (Andrea, some of you have met her at various Philly Marathons) was mere blocks from there at the same time it happened Wednesday night, using her run to do an errand and return a Red Box movie nearby and then run home. Scary, scary, scary.

Can I ask for scheduling advice? I need to do 7-8 miles this weekend (mini taper before next weekend's race). However, tomorrow I have my first Performance Cycling class (trainer workout with IronEx) and Sunday I am teaching Spinning. Both of those workouts are pretty hardcore. Saturday's will be 75-80 minutes at least, and Sunday's class is 90 minutes. Do I run:

- tonight in the dark? (alone -- I've asked but no one can go with me)

- tomorrow morning before cycling class?

- tomorrow afternoon?

- Sunday morning before Spinning?

- Sunday afternoon?

I'm afraid my legs will fall off if I don't plan this correctly. Help!

I took GoV's DD to her first NHL game last night. It was AWESOME. We were up 4-2 in the third period, but then Chicago tied the game with about 7 or 8 minutes to go. It looked like we were headed into OT when JVR scored the game-winner with 32.8 seconds left in regulation! Pandemonium! Cheering and dancing in the stands! Good guys win 5-4!!! What a great first game for her to attend!

AIlarie, I need a new 'do myself. I put a few pics in the blog. I love both of them, but I don't know if I'm ready to take the plunge...

Morning all!!!

Got a mile done last night but then felt crappy enough to just want to lay down. I think a massage is in order so will try to schedule something today!

Theia so glad your friends are ok!

Ailarie pictures of the new do when you get it, ok?!

Weekend plans? This will be the first weekend since Aug that DH is off so we are planning some quality family time. Heading to the Franklin Institute tomorrow to see the dinosaur exhibit for sure. Sunday will be packing away the last of the holiday decorations for sure but then maybe lunch out with the kids or something fun!

Morning! Got to the gym too late for spin, so I did intervals on the elliptical instead. I had to opt for sleep again this morning, so I'll have to squeeze in a workout later today, or take today as my rest day instead of Sunday. Honestly, right now, that sounds like the smart thing to do, but I'm sure I'll regret it on Sunday:)

Weekend plans: 3 birthday celebrations and a baby shower, plus various kid activities. Yikes.

Theia, I say do it before the killer spinning, but given your reluctance to run in the dark (totally understandable) do you have treadmill access??

Good morning all!

No exciting weekend plans here, just errands galore and then some prep before classes start on Monday.

morning all,

Theia - yeah, T said. Perhaps before the killer spin, but go easy. Also great story about first NHL experience. Oh, and glad your friends are OK...that's scary stuff.

So, I was stupid this morning. Set my alarm so I could get up and go run with some friends. The alarm goes off, so I turn it off, and shlep to the bathroom. After that I look around the room and notice that all of the clocks say 3:40am. I forgot to set my alarm clock back to Central time. So, I was up and hour early. I fixed the clock and got back in bed, but you don't usually get much good sleep after something like that happens.

Anyway, I got 9.3 miles in the cool for us 33 degree temps.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Mornin'! Met up with a couple runner friends for a loop of the park, all was well w/the legs but my lungs were finding it hard to breathe, and we weren't moving that fast. I think our temps wildly fluctuating and the remnants of this cold were the cause ... but truly appreciated those 37* temps. 6.1 mi done.

Alexis - I agree, pre-class or either of the afternoons; as long as you keep it easy

QOD / Weekend Plans: Tomorrow I'm running in my first of the NY Rogue Runners series, this is basically a group of friends that create running "races", scenarios would be better stating them, and it's all for fun and whatever prize the creator wants to offer up. I'm working on submitting my idea soon! And then Sunday I'll be heading to the Bronx for some trail & XC running in Van Cortlandt

p.s. Duckie, we'll need progress shots of your transformation back to soccer player bod ... you know for scientific purposes

Hi gang! I'm all screwed up this week, have no idea what day it is. I was off since before Christmas on vacation, then sick. Trying to get back into the swing of things.

I've got an appointment with the throat specialist next week, I hope he'll have some good news for me. I'm sick of being sick!

Not been doing a ton of running lately, but there's a group of us here at work who want to get out on our lunch hours next week. That'll be good for the motivation. And the local Y now has free childminding services in the evenings if I want to do a class or go for a swim. Perfect!

re: Tim Howard goal - did you see how windy it was?

Theia - I'm with everyone else, run before. Too bad your boys lost Timonen.

Just finished the last strength workout of the week: 5 sets of 5 australian pull-ups, 10 pushups, 20 sit-ups. Feeling pretty good that I was able to be consistent with this the last two weeks.

However, what I've not been consistent with is my eating. After gaining ZERO pounds while I was in the cast in the last month I've gained ten pounds and came damn close to seeing 190 (189.4 to be exact...whistling past the graveyard!) on the scale this morning. So I'm back to the daily plate to monitor and try to get my runaway snacking under control.

Maria - that sounds like a blast!

Good guys????? The team that lost the Winter Classic and is 0-3 against the NHL-best Rangers??

On a serious note, glad to hear that your friends are OK, but that is fucked up.

Nice to see CoachT back here.

Been in a funk lately. Work is a joke. My lay-off date was moved from 12/31 until 3/31, but it is dead here. The last part of our company was being sold to another entity, started trading for 2 months, and then the purchaser decided to pull the plug. So that last group of 130 people that thought they had a job are now being laid off as well. But we still have to migrate everything over to the purchasing company, because they actually did trade for 2 months, and need the apps and data for audit purposes. You can imagine how enthused all of the folks that are now getting laid off are to help with these projects, as well as the IT staff at the purchasing company, that now has to set up dozens of fairly complex applications that will never get used. Most of my days, I am at work browsing the web. I have done tons of self study for when I start looking for a new job, but that gets tired quickly. I have made up some projects for myself just to keep busy too. The group I work directly with, which was nine guys at one point, is down to three. Most people come in late and leave early, because we are all in limbo. One co-worker was also supposed to get extended until March, but asked not to, because he had a position lined up.

Fitness has been meh. After a decent fall, I ran 0 miles in December. Lots of excuses, but the bottom line is 0. Started doing Body For Life with a co-worker this week, so we will see where that goes. It is a 12 week program that should end right around my last day here (unless I get extended again), so at that point hopefully I will have a new job lined up with a new schedule, and we will see where things end up.

Sorry for the overwhelmingly self-centered post...

pretty sure all of our posts are pretty self centered :)

sorry to hear about the job. that sucks

On BFL, I've done that and loved it. I don't find it doable while training for a race or base but it is a great jump start. Get the cookbook too, Eating for Life. There are some GREAT recipes in there.

For now. It is a long season, my friend. We've had many years at the top of the standings until the last month or so of the season (most recently last year). All that matters is who is still standing in June.

Sorry about the work stuff. That is totally the suck. As for the fitness stuff, no biggie. You get to start over now, so make the best of it and keep coming here for inspiration, laughs, hugs, groans, sports banter, recipes, cute kid and pet pics, funny stories, and everything else this wonderful group offers.

KP, Timonen is my favorite. So bummed, but I'm hopeful it won't be a big deal and he'll be back on the ice for tomorrow's game to keep his streak going.

Thanks for the scheduling advice. I'll do a shorter run tonight and then my 7-8 miles on Sunday before Spinning. The trick will be to take it easy in Spinning; I don't think I'm capable of doing that!

morning peeps!

Alexis, I think you look good with your hair back, and so, you'd look good with short hair! Also, both styles you posted are similar, just one is straightened and one is not...you could rock both looks with one cut! I like both. Also, I'm glad your friends are safe.

My hair is getting long (for me!) This pic of me and A was taken at my friend's wedding in October and it's even longer now:

So the reception last night was nice, except when I first got to the gallery...they'd forgot to hang my photo!!!!! Gees!

Weekend: guitar lesson tonight, but nothing else. Tomw I might try to go back to flamenco class again, then I'm gallery sitting in the early evening. Nothing planned at all on Sun...strange weekend for me! No real plans! Might try to catch a movie at some point. And I'll be running a bit.

I just applied for a position at highly respected Institute across the river and would really like to get an interview...cross you fingers for me!
