Good morning all -

So, two of my New Year's resolutions were (1) a return to running and (2) posting here more often. So far, I've been pretty good about the former and, well, completely lacking in the latter. Hopefully today will be the start of a new trend with respect to the posting issue.

I read through the last few days' posts and it looks like a lot of people are going through some rough patches - both personally and running-wise. Here's to hopiong that they all come to a quick and happy resolution.

At this point I've been able to run every day in 2012. Now, these runs aren't particularly long or fast but I think that I need to baby my bad ankle a bit before getting into any heavy duty training. In fact, the ankle has been (knock on wood) pain-free so far and it's hard to describe how good that feels when you haven't been able to run without pain for what seems like forever (just about two years - running the NYC marathon in 2009 without training for it wasn't exactly the smartest thing that I've ever done - I spent several months recovering from that day).

On the down-side, one thing that was immediately clear on my first run is that recovering my old form isn't going to be the easiest thing - I'm pretty much back to square one from a cardiovascular/fitness perspective. Oh well, it was fun being a newbie the first time around and now I'll get to experience that again - I'm definitely exhausted at the end of every day, but it's that good kind of exhausted. I figure, if everything goes well, that I'll be in 5k shape by late spring/early summer and then in half marathon shape by the fall (and definitely in, ahem, 20k shape by Labor day....).

Lora - I'm all for you running NJ again this year. As for me - there's no way I could do it in 2012.

Anyway, I'm rambling, so I'll end this post here.

QOD: Pretty much summed up above. I'd like to get back into racing shape - so that's a lot of things rolled up into one. I'm torn as to where I should be racing - sometimes I think I'd like to revisit the races that I've done in the past to give them another shot (especially those courses that kicked my arse) and at other times I think I might like to try some new courses. I'll probably stay fairly local this year, but I'm always willing to listen if there's a big meet-up.

Good runs to all.
