Good morning all.

Just sitting here reading through all the posts while I wait to go to the pool. I figure I will get some work done, reading posts, while I wait for the pool to clear out a little. I don't want to go over and try and swim with 4 or 5 people to a lane. Especially when most of them don't know how to swim.

Today I am scheduled to do a 1000 meter time trial. Hopefully my time is a little better than four weeks ago.

Hapy trianing all.

I have a feeling there will be definite improvement Dave. You've been busting your butt that past who knows how long. Keep working hard Dave...my prediction for you in the not really too distant future is an Ironman.

Easy run tonight, but probably will have to be on the TM. It's 36* right now and by afternoon it's supposed to be single digits with up to 35mph winds. Not cool...

Have a good day. Rest up Tonya.....

Great new pic Dave!

Enjoy your run later Alex.

Ok guys yesterday when I was posting all of the other posts were below this text box. Today I don't see them. What did I do that made it happen yesterday? No chuckles Tonya (hope you're resting!). Am I nuts here?

Was supposed to be snowing this morning but it's just more rain, rain, rain. Gotta say that when I was down in Bend Ore. I was mighty impressed with their 300 days of sun a year statistic.

Heading out fo 5-6 in a few.

****AHA, I just found the little button that makes the posts show up. See Tonya, I may be slow but I'm not stupid!

Alex - Have a good run later.

Dan - I changed to pix just because 4BM asked a few days ago. It took me a while to get around to it.

Me - Well I had a great swim. I am just hoping that I counted my laps right. Anything after about 7 or 8 I start loosing track. I didn't use the lap feature on the watch this mroning. It is difficult to do while swimming. Anyhow, my time for 1000 meters the first week of January was 22:59, today I did it in 19:37, another 15% improvement, and just in case I was off by a lap, my time would have been around 20:37 or so. which is a 10% improvement. So either way I am happy, getting fast. I grossly underestimated my time for the Sprint Tri coming up for my swim time. I estimated 2 min/100 yard and I am doing faster than that now for 100 meters. Hmmm guess, i need to adjust my time if I can.

Hope the swim shows improvement Dave.

Alex- yeah we've got similar crap going on, but almost more depressing for me. Gonna get up to the 50's before dropping down to the 20's (of course all before I get a chance to run). I know it's not as cold as you're getting, but I hate to see the chance to run in shorts in January go by like that.

Dan- we're all nuts, so nothing to worry about there. Enjoy the run.

10 for me last night at anice easy effort level, but I went relatively fast compared to what I'd been doing at this effort level. Then got a nice 60 minutes of core work in while watching American Gladiators.

David--I like the new picture!!! You are really coming along with the tri stuff. I, too, can't count laps for anything...

Fish bowl for me this morning. Forgot to write down coach's workout, so I just did a 60min steady. Physically, I could have gone longer. Mentally, I couldn't go any longer!

A guy I know from yoga class is usually walking the track while I swim. Today he came down when I finished. He asked if I knew how bad my swim looked. Uh, yah... He says I swim like a barge, not a boat. Okay...

Coach didn't have me down for a run today. Bummer. It's 44* with light winds. Tomorrow it's supposed ot be in the 20's with high winds...

A common theme for me lately - I slept in

Only had time for 10.5 miles @ 75 minutes - I did 16 minutes @ T pace - Was going to be 20-25, but the pace was faster than my T-pace and although I could have - I was smart enough not to. Damn I am slow right now. I need to take 45 seconds off my t-pace in 10 weeks.

I hope to get a couple more jogs in today - Burn calories - Burn calories!

The fastest way to increase my fitness in the next 10 weeks is to get rid of excess weight.

The possitve - I am in normal end of January shape - Negative - my marathon is 8 weeks earlier this year

Good running to all -

Oh the trials of having kids. My son is getting better as he is still sleeping after being awake only once last night for about 15 minutes. Now it seems that my daughter is getting sick and I hope it is not that bad. Anyway I will survive or go crazy. I have maybe 4 miles scheduled for today. My wife is home resting from being slightly sick and not getting much sleep, so I should be good to go for a run in a little while. Have a great morning everyone.

Well my running has been all off this week. I had to bail on my Long Run on Sunday because I was traveling down state, and I intended on putting in the run (12.5 miles) last night after work. Unfortunately, it's not totally feasible to do a long run after work in the dark. The path is not lit and sort of in the middle of nowhere. Even with a headlamp I would not feel comfortable running out there. So...... I only ended up doing 6 additional miles last night. I'm still needing to put in the long run I missed. I'm thinking I might move the LR to Saturday, which would mean I'd have long runs on both Saturday (12.5 miles) AND Sunday (12 miles). I've never done back to back long runs before, but I guess 12 milers aren't really THAT long anyway. I think that's what I'll do.

Quality workout later today. Some strange mix of T and R paced running that I haven't deciphered yet from my training plan

Planning on 5 or 6 super easy paced miles on the treadmill this afternoon, adding to my monthly mileage PR. I also broke my runs/month PR. All that's left is the minor detail of performing well in my Spring races...

Dave & 4bm - ever thought of joining a masters swim class?

Nirvana - Scrub the long run! No need to put yourself at risk for potential injury. I would highly recommend you forget about it and move on.

So far so good, thanks for asking! I enacted some of the following changes

Soy milk instead of regular milk

Multi-Grain Bread instead of white bread

Deli lunch meat instead of processed meat packets

Drinking more 100% juices (pomgranate, cranberry, etc)

Eating more peanuts, pretzels and almonds instead of candy

Switched to decaf coffee and green tea

Heavy reduction of fried foods

Whole grain cereals instead of sugary stuff

Adding fish to the diet

Hopefully these changes will help turn things in the right direction. I think my body is already responding positively to the changes. Unfortunately, my wallet is NOT responding positively. My grocery bills have nearly tripled in per week costs, as I'm shopping at real stores instead of discount places like Aldi. But I figure it's for the best. We'll see......

whew...just ran one of the toughest runs in awhile. The goal today was

1 mile warmup
2 miles at Marathon Goal Pace (9:00)
2 miles Tempo (8:36)
2 miles at MGP (9:00)

woke up and it's dark, 35 degrees and raining hard with winds at about 20mph - yuck.

First mile was normal: 10:47
Next two MGP miles were tough - especially with wind and rain: 8:55, 8:54
Then came the Tempo - wow did it take a lot out of me: 8:10, 8:17. Too fast, especially with the wind and rain.
Final two MGP''s were off both ways: 9:11 and 8:37.

I'm just glad I'm done...burrrrr. Time for a warm shower.

Have good runs everyone!
I need to follow your lead. To much eating of junk here. Especially sweets.

Nice workout! Impressive. Great effort out there.

Sounds like the changes I made to my diet 10 years ago. Looks great! I can't imagine that your body wouldn't respond positively to this drastic change. Give it another few weeks and I'll bet you can tell a major difference in the way you feel every day.

And yeah, whenever Phillip and I began dating again a couple of years ago, he couldn't understand the amount of money spent on good foods. Now it's a little different since he's lost nearly 80 pounds...

Nirvana - Yeah, sounds expensive. Nobody tells you that, do they? Still, let us know how it goes.

Me - I'm doing my best to go crazy for the last week of VRAA. Indications are it's working, as my wife thinks I have already lost my mind. Yesterday was 72 min cardio, 4 miles running, in my first "for real" double workout day. Today should be similar.

Another quick morning check-in for me. The proposal I've been leading at work gets submitted at the end of the week and we have a major milestone review today, so it will be too busy for me to get in a midday run today; it will have to be done on the treadmill at home this evening.

Tonight's plan calls for a 10-mile progression run of some type. I haven't quite figured out the detailed approach for it yet. I guess the default is to do what I usually do -- 2 miles at warmup pace, step up to marathon pace until the final mile, then throw a 10k pace finish.

Dave/4boysmom - nice job in the pool

Brian - good job on the run this morning. That kind of Portland weather is familiar to me; it's what I get to run in whenever I'm out there.

Nirvana - welcome to world of eating right. Yes it does cost more but think of all the medical bills you'll save in the long run. Actually the whole issue of it being cheaper to eat badly than eat right is a real pet peeve of mine, but that's a different discussion for a different forum. And I agree with Dave, write off the missed long run. It happens, don't dwell on it.

Tonya - hope you're feeling better. Also I sent you a private message re: the race aftermath.

Flounder - keep working at it, get that endurance up and push those tempo runs.

Mailbox - good run last night. I watched that Gladiators show for about 5 minutes and that's all about I could take. I decided Tennessee vs. Duke women's basketball was much better fare and switched to that.

Alex/Dan/kfuller - have good runs later.

Have a great day everyone. I'll check back in this evening after my run.
