Week 2 has begun! I had a GREAT Run tonight. Ran about 45 minutes - Started nice and easy, but the last mile or so, the pace kept picking up- everything was working fantastically. Still a long way to go, but tonights run actually made me feel like a 'runner' again. My breathing was strong; and as we finished, I wasn't fighting for air.

Temps reminded me of an Iowa spring evening - mid 50's with low humidity.

I'd guess the distance was right around 4 miles or so.

2 mile (plus) hard run tonight. Not quite as hard as last weeks; but I went 3 minutes longer! I just kept pushing the pace harder throughout the run. The weather is perfect for this Iowa boy in Texas! Mid 50's and low humidity - perfect for what I'm used to and I can really feel the difference in my runs.

Another thing I've started this week - Watching what I eat! Trying to cut back on some things I shouldn't be eating as much as I have. Hope to cut 15 pounds by the time I finish the training schedule.

Keep up the great work all!!

Well, I got my long run in early this week! 6 miles this morning at around a 10:20 pace. No problems whatsoever with the run; in fact, the last mile or so, I wanted to push harder. I've always trained where the last 1/2 mile I tried to kick! and finish as strong as I could - that tendency is coming back.

Good sign!

I feel pretty good now and my confidence level is going up daily.

Hope you all are still in there!

best,

MOrning everyone!! Ran last night 3miles at the track or 24 laps ALready I am sick of that business!

Today is a rest day and I am itching to run! The temp is going to be 18* with little wind!! PERFECT day to run outside. I know I can't get the whole 4miles in but may sneak a nice little 2 in and run the 4 tomorrow still!! MY new running jacket shuld be here today and I know I will be dying to use it!!

Missy here is the jacket I ordered from REI outlet....

http://www.rei.com/REI-Outlet/product/759542

I got the blue!! It ended up being $45 with delivery because now thru 12/7, they have a automatic coupon code for an extra 20% off!! Great deal..only downside was that there is no reflectors on it! I also ordered a pair of tights and bavaclava from www.runbargains.com

I don't have time to link the stuff I got! Last year I purchased a pair of Asics Thermopolis lite running pant, that I LOVE!!! They are so soft and I just layer with another cheap pair of running pants from Target when it gets real cold out!! I have the get-a-grips shoe grippers for ice, but don't think I recommend them as mine keep slipping off!! It is a hassle! I need some good mittens now and that is on my Christmas list!!

Satfix: great job getting those runs in. Your weather sounds awesome!! I need to lose 5# too! It is hard this time of year so I admire your resolve, I am not sure I can do it!!

ToeJam: (every time I see your name, I think of how my little bro used to pick his toe jam out every night before bed!! ) GREAT I need ALL of those, so I will be picking your brain as necessary!!

Awesome job everyone...happy runs and have a great day!!

hello all,

this week is my "easy" week. i'm starting to notice achiness that accompanies the stiffness in my left knee. becca, you were totally right. i shouldn't have obssessed over it.. b/c it has started to turn into a small problem. it aches when i run and it aches when i'm sitting for too long and get up. my shoes are still good so i'm contributing it to overuse, aka runners knee.

sb, i'm not sure cold weather running gear will help me in our chilly WI weather.. it was -1F this morning and none of the streets were plowed. i had planned to run outside but went to the gym for 3.5 (achy) miles on the dreadmill. tommorow is friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Missy- Runner's knee is just inflammation of the tendons surrounding the knee. This is caused when there is a muscular problem (ie-trigger points) in the quadricep and/or the IT band. Do you have access to a foam roller, a wooden rolling pin or the STICK? If so, I can try to virtually help you release the trigger points and then stretch. The key is that stretching alone can worsen the problem unless you release those "knots" that are holding portions of the muscle in contraction.

Extend your leg and flex it. See the lump on the outside of the thigh just above the knee? Try relaxing the leg by propping it up and press deep into the muscle. Work your way along that muscle which runs on a slight diagonal up to the hip "pokey-outey" bone. Then start again at that spot and massage deeply up the outside of the leg in a straight line. Next use the rolling pin or what ever and press hard into the muscle rolling up and down. Try really hard to keep your leg relaxed. When you are done. Stretch the quad and the IT band very well. Good luck!

Oh too funny, I am in ND!! I agree the weather has really stunk these last few wks!! This feels like mid-January weather!! I try to get out as much as I can, but with darkness early and cold weather I have just had to embrace the fact that usually half my runs are stuck at the track or dreadmill!!

STAY WARM!!
Rich-- how long of a run was scheduled? Can you maybe add one of the miles to Sunday's run? just to feel like you didn't miss the whole thing? Don't stress it-- everyone blows off the occassional run! You are still doing great

Missy- I love to teach spin! It is one of my favorite classes to teach and take!

sb70- Good job getting out there! Today for our run at 4:30 am we started at 63*, so I will be thinking of you cold weather peeps! I could never run if I lived somewhere cold!

Total for two days should be 8 miles - I went out with the intent of doing it, but not properly hydrating and then the heat and humidity (and no real heart for it today) - brought me to a stop about 40 minutes into it. So, I just enjoyed a leisurely stroll home.

Still not a bad week all in all. Next week will be better

Great Job, Missy! Have you plugged your time into the Macmillan Running Calculator (online)? It predicts your times for various race distances from a current PR. PLus, it will tell you what your speed should be for various types of training runs based on that PR. It will help you know where your training should be right now as you reach toward the eventual goal of a BQ. That way you won't train too fast I am very pround of you!! AG wins feel so good!! Trophy or medal?

WHERE IS EVERYONE??? TO BUSY TO POST FROM ALL THEIR RUNNING I HOPE!!!

Ran 3 outside last night and have 4 on the schedule for tonight! I am repeating last wks schedule..still not very confident in my knee and am staying very cautious. Next wk is a cutback wk so that will be good!! I feel the stiffness occassionally when I run but the pain never intesifies!! I have learned not to run thru pain anymore so I would stop if it did!

SATFIX are you getting your runs in this wk??? GET YOUR ARSE OUT THERE!!

Toejam: you warm weather people don't know how lucky you are!! Although in the summer your running weather pretty much sucks! TOO HOT OR TOO COLD..which is worse??

I am ready for my cutback week next week too! 43.5-45.5 miles scheduled this week, plus my group fitness classes and at least 2 weights workouts! Yikes!

For me, too cold is way worse, but there are days in the summer that we wake as early as 3:30 am to run so we can get done before the sun shines. That is a little brutal, but wet and cold? NO WAY!
