Okay, back from the race!

You guys were right, it was crazy crowded! I have never run in a big race like this before, so it was really weird. The weather was a major factor, as it has been my last 3 races, but I figured everyone else is in the same boat as me, so whatever.

It was around 75+ish (82 when we got in the car to leave, but that was about an hour later), with humidity around 85% and a decent South wind. The course started out going North (with the wind) for just over a mile and then we turned around and headed South (definitely against the wind!) for around 2 miles. Tomorrow would have been the perfect day for this race, as it's going to be much cooler and have a strong North wind--that would have been awesome!

Here's a picture from the start:

I lined up right towards the front, but there ended up being a lot of weaving and pushing just because of the pure numbers.

Now, my splits look REALLY UGLY; but keep in mind that we started with a tail wind on the first mile and turned around.
Mile 1: 6:25 (HR 177)--this felt pretty easy & the hr was fairly low, why can't we keep running north?
Mile 2: 6:52 (HR 187)--turned around, arg--wind is not my friend, at least we are all hurting.
Mile 3: 6:57 (HR 187)--wind blows, literally! Also, my watch read this miles as a little long (tenth of a mile), don't know if it was. I got pushed almost to the sidewalk by all the "walkers" just getting started--some folks were jogging backwards--this may be why it read so long. They should have put some cones in the street to keep us left and right.
.12: :52 (HR 187)--just kept pounding it in best I could. Damn, it's really humid out, too.

So my watch tells me 21:06, I don't know the official time it should be posted later. Motionbased put the race at 3.20 which would have been a much nicer pace (6:35) but I'm sure it's a little off or I was really spending more time trying to get out of the way of the walkers in the 3rd mile than I realized.

Here is the finish (you can imagine how I feel in the 2nd shot by looking at me looking at the ground):

I'm beginning to make friends with Janet Robertz, a top masters elite, who just moved down here last year from MN. She is very nice and helpful, I hope to learn a lot from her. We figured most of the top people were about 30-60 slower than their average because of the conditions, herself included. I really plan on picking her brain in the next couple of months before Boston!

So, overall I'm actually please with this race. I can feel a PR coming if I can get some helpful conditions. Even though my splits look ugly, I never let up and didn't allow my HR to fall at all so I pushed the best I could.

I don't know where I placed, we couldn't find posting anywhere at the race so I'll wait until they go online later.

Holy long post--sorry!
