Ugh.. I'm up for the event Radioyada and I are heading to. There should be a law against having to get up this early ><

And getting a major calf cramp a couple of hours before I needed to get up anyway!

Have Fun & Good Luck!

I'm up as well for the 5k. The dog woke me up around 4, so I just stayed up. We'll be heading out the door in a little while. It's going to be really hot and windy, so I'm trying to think of the race as a good speedwork session and not put too much pressure on myself. This thing has been all over the news lately, it's going to be a zoo there.

Good Morning Everyone

Morning -

I'm heading out to get coffee and see if it really is that cold out right now (it says - 16, feels like -31 windchill). Supposed to be sunny and get up to zero at noon though, with - 16 windchill. That's warm enough to run outside, right?

Good luck racers!

I'm walking today with my friend Dave (of the 3Day Walk). I'm guessing we'll do about 10? Not sure...he's dealing with some awful stuff at home (his dad is home with him and dying of cancer) and he may not have that much time.

I need to go run today....... but a 16 mile an hour North wind and wind chill of 23 stand in my way but since it's Saturday I don't have to go before daybreak and I will take a time off from gaming to go this morning sometime......maybe (wink wink)

Walked Gus a few this morning. He could still stand to run a few, but at least that took some of the edge off.

It's @ 15* here, maybe 5* with the wind chill, and it's still going down.

Morning, friends--

Got 3 miles on the TM and 20 minutes on the bike yesterday evening after eating too much and having a rare cup of decaf coffee. I start 10k training next week, so I had to get at least 3 miles in yesterday. I'm a little nervous about starting the training since I haven't been putting in very many miles since New Year, but I'm going to give it the old college try.

Good luck to all the racers, long runners, and cold runners today!

morning!

Late night last night that involved wine, so I got a later start to my day...
I'm heading to the shore in a bit, for no other reason than it's a pretty day and I have 12miles on my schedule, so why not run at the beach?

Good luck to our racers!

Okay, back from the race!

You guys were right, it was crazy crowded! I have never run in a big race like this before, so it was really weird. The weather was a major factor, as it has been my last 3 races, but I figured everyone else is in the same boat as me, so whatever.

It was around 75+ish (82 when we got in the car to leave, but that was about an hour later), with humidity around 85% and a decent South wind. The course started out going North (with the wind) for just over a mile and then we turned around and headed South (definitely against the wind!) for around 2 miles. Tomorrow would have been the perfect day for this race, as it's going to be much cooler and have a strong North wind--that would have been awesome!

Here's a picture from the start:

I lined up right towards the front, but there ended up being a lot of weaving and pushing just because of the pure numbers.

Now, my splits look REALLY UGLY; but keep in mind that we started with a tail wind on the first mile and turned around.
Mile 1: 6:25 (HR 177)--this felt pretty easy & the hr was fairly low, why can't we keep running north?
Mile 2: 6:52 (HR 187)--turned around, arg--wind is not my friend, at least we are all hurting.
Mile 3: 6:57 (HR 187)--wind blows, literally! Also, my watch read this miles as a little long (tenth of a mile), don't know if it was. I got pushed almost to the sidewalk by all the "walkers" just getting started--some folks were jogging backwards--this may be why it read so long. They should have put some cones in the street to keep us left and right.
.12: :52 (HR 187)--just kept pounding it in best I could. Damn, it's really humid out, too.

So my watch tells me 21:06, I don't know the official time it should be posted later. Motionbased put the race at 3.20 which would have been a much nicer pace (6:35) but I'm sure it's a little off or I was really spending more time trying to get out of the way of the walkers in the 3rd mile than I realized.

Here is the finish (you can imagine how I feel in the 2nd shot by looking at me looking at the ground):

I'm beginning to make friends with Janet Robertz, a top masters elite, who just moved down here last year from MN. She is very nice and helpful, I hope to learn a lot from her. We figured most of the top people were about 30-60 slower than their average because of the conditions, herself included. I really plan on picking her brain in the next couple of months before Boston!

So, overall I'm actually please with this race. I can feel a PR coming if I can get some helpful conditions. Even though my splits look ugly, I never let up and didn't allow my HR to fall at all so I pushed the best I could.

I don't know where I placed, we couldn't find posting anywhere at the race so I'll wait until they go online later.

Holy long post--sorry!

Awesome job Jen!!! You're my new hero.

Hey all, I'm just back from an ez 6.25 in driving snow. Yes, it was snowing here, you can spare me all of that it snows here all the time stuff, I lived in Michigan (on two occasions) for a total of 9+ years, so I'm familiar with the stuff.

Actually it was pretty nice out there. About 34 degrees, and snowing. Not sticking to the roads yet.
