RR: Maine Old Orchard Beach OLY!

Haiku

Training day for fun

Wanted to have a good bike

And baby the run

Goals:

Have fun, move with alacrity in the transitions, rock the bike and then run easy.

Swim:

I started the swim with  the goal of a nice “easy” time and push a little toward the end. Overall, I nailed it, but threw in a few pick-ups to get out of some crowding. I worked to follow-some feet, but it always seemed they weren’t going “quite fast enough” or were TOO **** fast or me. So, I mostly swam my own race.

T1:  Transition had a LONG run, about 3-4 min from the beach so I used it to get my legs under me, shake of the dizziness and just chill.  I saw Cak out infront of me by about 10 seconds on the run up and she said hi. Then I got to my wrack and **** broke loose.

1.       I couldn’t get out of my wetsuit!! I need a stripper –all kinds.

2.       I had so much sand on my feet it bugged me so I wiped them off

3.       A pad fell out of my helmet so I had to grab it, put it in the right place and then get toing

4.       Gloves were screwed up. I prob don’t need gloves for an oly, but whatever, this was practice

Bike:  I knew I had lost some time to Cak so I decided to just ride my race, but I was gunning for her.  Ab about mile 3.5ish I finally caught her as I was cranking. I LOVE my new bike and I LOVE the fit. I was able to stay mostly Aero and really hammer the downs and the flats.  I had ridden the course the day before so I knew there were not lots of long grinders, but lots of little steep pops. I learned the day before that if I carried momentum down, I could really get about ¾ up them before my legs really needed to work, and most were less than 400M so I could just push a bit and recover over the top.  I would love to give you HR data, but my HRM wasn’t working so I kept at an RPE of 7-8 overall and was feeling great.  I saw CAK about a mile plus or so after the turn around and saw Monica at my bile 16or so.  I hammered the last few miles and just missed my reach goal by about a minute..

T2. No major issues, just a stupid way to attache my number to my race belt that caused me an issue, but nothing major.

Run: Ok, instructions were to stay in Z2.  Since I had no HRM, I just ran easy I went RPE about 5ish.  I was not happy to get passed as much as I was, but I was chatting with people, saying thanks to the volunteers, having fun, somewhere around mile 4 I had to tie my shoe, and  I was talking with everyone.  I saw Cheryl about a mile or so behind me and then I saw my lovely wife and we gave each other a kiss in the middle of the road.  I was at about mile 5.8 then so I turned on the jets a little for the last bit and finished!

Post race.  I jogged out to cheer on Monica and found her about 2.4 miles from the start.  Monica wasn’t’ running much so I kept her company and we had some fun.

Great job Adam!  Love the fact that you included every mile split on the bike and the run (what about the swim!), but didn't give a finish time or place!

LOL, Mike!

He passed me (like that was ever NOT going to happen) and then had fun with Monica...guess that's all that counts?  biggrin.gif

Great job, Adam!  You are so totally ready for success at the Cedar Point FullRev!

(also, nice to have the mileage from your Garmin...am hoping their mile markers were pretty much correct since I didn't have my GPS...even by eye that mile 6 sign seemed like it left a somewhat long .2 miles to the finish...not a big deal, just curious)
