"I truly look forward to putting my shoes on every day. ... It's something that makes me feel better, something that in a lot of ways is therapeutic -- not only physically but mentally. It's something I enjoy."
Amen to that, brother in streak running!
I'm only in my 9th year, with 9 coming in December. 9 goes into 44, oh, about 5 times!
I got a long way to go. Let's first see if my streak survives the whole giving birth thing. You bet I will have a pair of running shoes in each of our cars! :)
"I've always thought that you have to become somewhat comfortable with being uncomfortable. When you're working out, we all feel a little bit uncomfortable. And this might sound ridiculous, but I kind of like feeling uncomfortable -- I think there's great benefit from that, physically and psychologically."
This is what I have always said about the crazy things I've done over the years. A bit of misery now and then is good - it makes you appreciate the comforts of normal daily life.
Good article, good interview. Good luck chasing him, Thor! (9 freaking years already??? wow)

There's so much truth in these quotes. I mean, some people make it look easy, but the truth is that it is not easy for anybody. It's more that we minimize what makes it so tough by getting fitter and stronger, and at the same time we also become comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Next Saturday I will try to turn that around a bit and try to pretend that I am comfortable being uncomfortable, because there will be a moment -- and probably many of them -- when it will be impossible to ignore the discomfort. My goal will be to welcome it, work with it, and have it along for the ride.
pain is inevitable, misery is a choice.
