Hi all. I just participated in Girls with Gears in Limerick, PA - bike ride to raise money for cardiovascular research among women in honor of a woman named Carol who died of a heart attack (info at carolforheart.org).
My training partner, Kathy, and I planned to do the 62-mile ride. Matt and some other friends were doing the 40-mile (it wasn't an all girl event despite the name).
It was overcast and windy, but luckily the rain held off. Kathy and I missed a turn early on and ended up with 69.5 miles total! (thankfully we missed the turn at the beginning so we were still in good spirits about it).
The roads and the scenary were beautiful but very, very hilly. There was one 23% grade uphill - a lot of very steep hills, and lots of less steep but long climbs. But, lots of fast downhill and rollers too.
We stopped at two food stations. The peanut and M&M mix was just what I needed to get through the last 20 miiles.
1. My new bike loves to climb. I'm naming him Mountain Goat
2. I felt surprisingly good after almost 70 miles, and could actually have done more.
3. I can't wait for my half IM, and I feel like I could complete the thing right now. This was a huge boost for me, to complete this long ride feeling good. I know my training is paying off.
Thanks for reading.
