Get your BP checked and post it. <135/85=10 pts <110/70=20 pts

batmomm 12-04-2007 11:28 AM

mine was 106/60

techgoddess 12-04-2007 12:03 PM

I love this one - easy points for me!! My BP is always very low. I'll go to the pharmacy across the street at lunchtime and get it checked.

Cappy, I know you probably get sick of hearing this, but I love this Campaign!!

NBjunkie 12-04-2007 12:13 PM

Oh Man--I have no way to do this---we are having a blizzard, still--so I am not going out.....bummer! maybe my neighbor has a bp cuff?

techgoddess 12-04-2007 12:55 PM

NBjunkie, it's easy: just call 911 and complain of chest pains. The EMT will take your BP for you.

Ken A 12-04-2007 01:12 PM

I've got my own cuff at home since I have borderline high bp and I keep an eye on it. It was 134/83 this morning so I'm just able to claim the 10 points!

lkschiller 12-04-2007 01:26 PM

107/60 for me.

NBjunkie 12-04-2007 01:52 PM

TECH--too funny--think they would appeciate that! LOL

techgoddess 12-04-2007 05:01 PM

I can walk over to the pharmacy just a few blocks from my work and take my BP there. I've never used one of those store BP checkers before - are they fairly accurate? And I just got done running on my lunch hour - should I wait awhile to get a more accurate reading or should that not affect it?

Calliope 12-04-2007 07:02 PM

112/63 for me. Just missed the 20 pt cutoff!

Andi 12-04-2007 07:07 PM

The machine at the pharmacy says

Not sure if that is accurate - It looks like I am almost dead.

Tamster 12-04-2007 07:50 PM

I walked over to the grocery store that has one of those BP cuff machines at their pharmacy.
It said my BP was 120/73. I don't think my top number ever even got that high when I was pg! My normal BP, like when I have it checked at the docs office, is usually right around 105/65.
so, I guess I only get 10 pts today for BP

Litchfield Hills 12-04-2007 08:50 PM

128/78. Crap - it is never that high. We have a cuff because my wife has high blood pressure, and it runs rampant in her family. I check it fairly often. It is usually ~115/60.

wanderingoutlaw 12-04-2007 09:57 PM

a bit higher than usual, but I usually only get it checked once a month early in the morning at the red cross. this was using the grocery store's blood pressure measuring machine.

riley0003 12-04-2007 10:02 PM

Mine was 110/84. That's great for me -- it's usually much higher. I have really bad hypertension and take meds for it. Untreated it's around 180/110; thank goodness for meds! So I guess it's 10 points for me. I have a cuff b/c I'm an EMT.

Actually I had a stroke around 16 years ago, and since then my bp has been really high and requires regular checks and medication.

120/'s usually around 115/60, so I wouldn't have made the 20 pt mark anyway (still a helluva' lot better than 150/100, which used to be normal for me )

QuixoticNotions 12-05-2007 10:50 AM

To be fair though, there's no advantage to having low blood pressure-- that's largely genetic it's not liking resting heart rate. In fact, if you're not normally low-- it can be a *bad* thing.

A healthy adult is 120/80 -- "Normal" is considered 110-140, and 70-90. So to get the 20 pts here someone has to have what would disturb a dr if it's not normal. (Speaking as someone with low blood pressure who has to explain I'm having no symptoms everytime I go to the doctor. Low blood pressure can be a sign of a problem - such as underactive thyroid.)
Prehypertension is 120-139 and 80-89.
Hypertensions is 140/90+

I think this challenge would be more "healthy" if it was --

Under 120/80 - 20 pts
Under 139/89 - 10 pts

But that's just my opinion

QuixoticNotions 12-05-2007 10:51 AM

Mine goes as a low as 90/60. If you're normally low it's not necessarily something to be concerned about.

Andi 12-05-2007 11:22 AM

It is normally low. Every time I go to give blood I have to explain to them that I work out and it is ok that my bp is that low.

jebba 12-05-2007 11:25 AM

Is it okay to do this a day late? My computer at home is broken.
