Good morning all. I'm very tired because I didn't sleep well last night. I kept waking up and thinking about work and I couldn't stop; finally I just gave up and got out of bed and have been answering emails.

No runs for me today but I did end up doing some spinning last night and I worked up a good sweat.

As for hydration, I use the Nuun tablets when it's particularly hot & humid and they help me a lot. Mostly I just use lots of cold water, though. I drink 2 cups of coffee every morning but water all the rest of the day. I don't like soda and almost never drink it. I like a good ice-cold beer once in a while, and a nice glass of wine (or 2 or 3!) on rare occasion.

Enjoy your day everyone and run a couple of miles for me.

Susan

Running in memory of my Dad.

No running for me today, having done some 3 days in a row I don't want to overdo it.

23 on the bike was fine this morning although my legs are still suffering from Sunday(DOMS). This is a bugger as I have a bike race this evening!!!!!

Relax and enjoy

Good Morning!

Glad to hear you are making good progress Gobi!

5M, avg 7:53. Glad to hold on to that pace this morning - 72°, 93% humidity and the dew point is 70° at 8:00 in the morning - blah. I don't know how you Texans run in your weather!

Okay, I'm going to vent for a while. Bear with me ...

Well, I'm officially tired of running in South Florida in the summer. Can't it just please ease up a little? Or can't I just move? It's taking all the energy out of me.

This morning the schedule was for 10 miles total with 10 x 1 minutes @ 5K pace (7:20) with 1 minute jog recoveries between each. I got it done but it wasn't pretty.

The first fast bit came in at 12:14 min/mile avg (??? as if ...) with a maximum speed of 107.8 mph (!!! I wish ...). Now if i can just harness that max. speed!

The other more "normal" fast parts came in at:
7:49, 7:55, 7:39, 7:26, 7:32, 7:23, 7:20, 7:29, and 7:24. The pace was all over the place. And these were only 1 minute repeats ...

It might just be the weather which was brutal. 80° and 76% at 4:45 AM. But I've been struggling for a week now. And I am dead tired after this one. I think it may be time to shut it down for awhile till my resting HR tells me it's time to get back out there. I'll see what Coach thinks.

Dreaming of November, Bill

Good morning all,

Bill, you need to retire up to NC for the summer months, it's a boring 71F almost every morning
I woke up on the late side today but still managed to get my run in.

10.20 MOH @ 8:53 pace...ramping up for the Ridge to Bridge in Oct.

Good racing this evening, gobi.

What news, Dr. Beast?

All you struggling in the H&H can stop reading now.

54° F, IRC
6 easy miles, 9:35/mi, 69% AHR
I just let my mind and feet wander. Most pleasant.

Reggie wanted me to tell you that he joined me for the first 2 miles.

dagnebbit.

Left my running gear in the kitchen. Looks like I'll be running this evening.

Just want you all to know that I know all about the bananas. And I'll deal with you when you least expect it.

As you were.

Sorry. Pressed the wrong button.

1hr + 4x100m strides (or thereabouts)

Forgot (doh!) I'm on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes! Soft running surface along pristine creeks and rivers, marshes (tons of birds). Over 75 miles of trail! Animals scurrying around. Nice nice nice.

Cool, sunny, gorgeous. Mountains all around. Sugary sweet.

<tap tap tappity tap> Ahem. Paging Dr. D!

Awaiting the comeback of velour jumpsuit couture.

This H&H is sapping the sproink from my legs and desire from my heart!

Been very busy with cross country. My first year as head coach.

Mill - send those temps to Massachusets. Please!
Sal - I'm glad you're back.

Mid to upper 70's, 93% - just the way I like it. 12M, 1:40:24, 8:22 pace. I decided there's no point in killing myself today, so it was just a nice GA. - In these conditions, I'm using Gatorade, cut with 50% H2O.

Is there an RR from Dale in our future?

Bah, whatta buncha whiners. (As I bask in the cool morning hours before we get Round #2 Heat Wave out here. )

10.3 easy miles...a midweek 10-er still seems a little intimidating when I am lacing up the shoes, but this one was a breeze.

Somehow, M'Sal, when I look back on bringing DS up, and am seeing the young man he is turning out to be....I rejoice that he is clearly very happy when he is out for a long hike. I plan to take Thursday off (sneaking away from work responsibilities) to take him hiking in the Cascades.

Second Wind -- yep, I have to get out and pick some blackberries, too.

emcee -- snork

So goot to have Sal back . . . . somedays she's like the female version of Ribs eh? and we love it!

Souci - you probably passed my mom & dad on the road over the past day or two. Last night they stayed in a little town near the Idaho/Wyoming border - Irwin I think they said. They were in Boise the day before. On their Harley heading back to MN for a vacation. Today they will be at the Grand Tetons.

Back at work after a 3 day wknd. I have three more 3 day wknds coming up . . . I think I could get used to this type of work week real easy. After 7+ miles on the track yesterday, I plan on today being a rest day.

have a good day everyone!

~Tammy~

One obstacle for me in judging what is hot and humid is having no comparison between the condition I am in now and how I used to handle the H and H. For example, this week it is mid-80's here between 7 and 8 a.m., and usually there is a light breeze. This seems comfortable to me. I never check the humidity but I did for the last two days and it shows on Yahoo Weather at 65%. I have no idea if that is low or high. I think in the north it is much worse (See Irunmike's post).

But I do know that I continue to fatigue easily and I am guessing this is just my present condition. I simply don't know.

5 miles this morning at something under ten minutes per mile, followed by a flex workout.

Bill, you worked awfully hard today; great effort. Tomorrow I am going to do some track work, although not a killer workout. Spareribs

If you are in Coer d'Alenes you MUST come thru Spokane, drive up north 3 hours and come to visit my nest.

Oh where, ohhhhh where did our little heart doc go???

The worse weekend call in recent years did not allow me to run my LR on the weekend, so yesterday afternoon I put on my bossy sombrero and left work at 3pm. Drove home, got ready for a run and asked DS2 to drive me up to the mountains so I could scape the H&H (it was 85F when I started).
We drove 20 miles away from home, son dropped me off and I started running back home. It is amazing how the senses awakens in the woods. My spirit was alive and I did not mind a bit to be all alone in the woods. It is also amazing how a 10:30 mile pace feels so hard at 1800f elevation. It was hot to say the least, but I was well equipped with several bottles of water and gatorade, which we dropped every 6 miles on the drive up to the hills. To keep myself cool and kul I wore my Ragnar del sol straw hat. The first 15 miles were slow miles and the last 4 at MP + 30 sec (at around 9:30ish) and the last mile at 8:40. When I got home my DH was ready to take me for a nice leasurely 2 miles walk to cool down and he had prepared my ice bath for me when we returned.
So, my first 20 miler of this training cicle is in the bag.

Wild life seighting: around a dozen deer, 4 rattlers, 1 garden snake, one turtle and no tarantulas.

Yes, Dr D., forsooth!

I did my hill sprints today after a fortnight's hiatus.
Skip's suggestion for SecondWind last week to quicken turnover rather than lengthen stride has been my running focus since.
I warmed up ~ 2 miles and did 8x100 with strict 3' recoveries and a mile plus cooldown.
All fell in the 24.04-24.89 second range and per garmin distance of 319-330' from a standing start.
Between 6 and 7, I saw a quick red fox trot across my track.
When I got home, there was a deer in my yard, waiting for another hosta leaf to appear.
The ironweed is blooming.
Fall is near.
