Too chicken to do the Bluelake Olympic triathlon this weekend, I signed up for "just the du".

I researched the race thoroughly beforehand. That is, I looked up my age group competitors and checked their stats beforehand. There were only 3:

1. "Magness, the Goddess of Du" 2 yrs older (older than dirt!) and omigod fast.
2. "Unknown"...no stats available
3. "Alice"...right in my range...I'd need to beat her to ensure an AG place.

I wanted to have fun on this race, not race to exhaustion, so I wore no watch.

The 5K went fine, 25:26. Magness the Goddess ran off like a shot (her 5K was 18 minutes something -- see?). I kept Alice in my sights but she arrived in T1 about a minute ahead. I was ahead of "unknown".

So I passed several people in T1, which was nice. Including Alice.

Then, in the 40K mile bike, waves of humanity passed...bike after bike. Ever optimistic, I tried to ignore the disk wheels buzzing past. Particularly annoying were the athletes in OSU beaver tri team outfits. grrr. The only nice person to pass me was my Fabulous Swim Coach Gina. Magness the Du Goddess had an average speed of about 25 mph. I kid you not.

I was not discouraged by the busy left lane next to me because I knew I was riding much faster than at the olympic triathlon I did a few weeks ago. Alice and I were evenly matched, passing each other twice. Somewhere past halfway I passed her & she never caught up again. (1:21:05 for my bike split)

The 10K run was peppy and I held my position a little better (but not much better). Unfortunately 2+ hours of hard work finally did me in and my last mile was pretty sad. (Again, the streaming mass of humanity.) I had to go lie down afterwards! (55:23 for my 10K split)

Magness the Goddess of Du won top female overall (40 minutes ahead of me), leaving me with an age division "win." Hooray! I chatted with her a bit afterwards; she's nice!

Great job Econo-grrl!

(You are a Goddess to us and that's all that's important, right )

I'm guessing that no kids were injured in this race...for a change...
Well done. Now rest up and run!

Really good race, Econo! You kicked Alice's and Unknown's butts! I wonder if they looked you up beforehand and thought, uh oh, not her...
So, when are you getting a disc wheel?

Not only is Magness older than dirt, she's the heck faster than dirt too. Holy schmokes.

Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must persevere and above all have confidence in our selves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained. --Marie Curie

Ok let's do math.
25.4 -- 8:12 per mile
81.1 -- 18.5 mph
55.4 -- 8:55 per mile
and for 2.7 hours.

This is called sustained output.

Heck YEAH, Econo. Nicely done!

Nice race Renee! I liked how you kept that great attitude as those "disk wheels" buzzed past. You raced this right well! Now take a Nap!

I'm kinda glad to see that I'm not the only one who researches the competition before an event. Gotta love the 'Confirmation' site on RaceCenter.com Northwest...

NICE going Econo! I marvel at your ability to do these tri-thingys in such quick succession. You are one tuf tri-grrl.

Jeepers, I didn't know you had such a competitive streak. Stalking the competition!! Very impressive times on those 5K and 10K runs. The biking, I have no clue how fast that is, but good enough for FIRST PLACE IN AG AWARD, obviously.
