ksrunr here. I recognize most of the names around here.  Haven't done a vraa for a while now.   I'll over score first two weeks and underscore the last two weeks. Should even out.  Racing OKC marathon May 1st.

Good luck in OKC.  This is my first year not to run the marathon or half since its inception.

GaReb770 - This is my first OKC.  I hear it can be a windy race on the return and maybe a bit too warm?

OKC tends to be a a little cool at the 6:30 start but warms up very quickly as the sun rises.  Whether winds will be a problem is determined by Lake Heffner.  If it's windy at Lake Heffner, which begins right just after mile 13,  then the entire 2nd half is going to be windy and probably slow you a bit.  On the other hand on race days when Lake Heffner's winds are calm you can have a really great race the 2nd half.   I've seen heavy winds in some races and nothing in all in others.  Heat is a factor in the race and it's always been very warm to say the least but there are lots of water stops and sports drink stations along the way and the neighborhood groups come out to watch and support the runners.   Just be aware of the heat build up especially on the 2nd half of the course but you'll have no problems getting water/sports drinks along the way.  Because the race is a week later than normal I suspect the race may be a little warmer than usual.

There is a Methodist Church right at the start that has a free pancake breakfast along with water and juice  open to everyone before the race and even for a little while after the race starts so if you have any family members watching you start it's a great place for them to go afterwards or before if you want to join any friends or family members.   It's also a good place to just relax a little before the race.

People in OKC will tell you the course is a little hilly.  Hills depend on one's perspective.  Living and running in Atlanta I consider OKC's course relatively flat with only a few very gentle inclines.  There is a small uphill just after mile one, a small bridge at mile 13 as you enter Lake Heffner, and another bridge, somewhat larger than the one at 13, but not too bad at mile 17 as you exit Lake Heffner.  Otherwise, I have a hard time describing anything else as a hill on the course.

Thanks for the info on the OKC.  I live in CC TX but was born and raised in Wichita, KS.  I don't remember OKC as being particularly hilly.

Hello,

Late arrival to the party.  I will try and remember to post daily!  FYI, I don't run on weekends due to real life things like work and coaching soccer that get in the way of my running!  :-D

Sorry guys.  I only scored 54 points the first week.  60 is supposedly the minimum for Bad Ass.  I'm a victim of "time bankruptcy".  I'll pick it up.

The week's not over YET, Jeff ... biggrin.gif

If you can carve out a few minutes today, a 4-mile bike ride or a mile and a half jog will get you to 60

Too friggin' cold for the bike.  Plus, I need new tires.  I might be able to do 30 minutes of Pilates tonight though.  If I remember.  Then actually do it.

Never bothered fixing them after if got cold last fall, and haven't gotten to them yet.  Still, it's too cold to bike anyway (for me, and the clothing that I have)

Oh Captain.   I will be running the OKC marathon May 1 which is last day of vraa.  I will likely not have computer access so you need to enter me for 27 miles and 1 point alternative on that day.  Thanks

ks

Hey Guys,

I will not be running for the next 3 days!  No reason except I am taking a break today and I generally don't run on weekends except during Marathon training season.

Have a great weekend.

I haven't been very active for the last few days.  Caught a bad chest cold with a cough.  Lots of phlegm.  The congestion has eased somewhat, but the cough is still there and I feel really run down.  Don't know if running is a good idea or not.

I ended up taking Monday off also but I got runs in yesterday and today.   Not many miles since I am tired but I got us some points.

Can I count 5 hours of walking around Universal Studios as alt workout points for Sunday?  :-D
