Hey hey team!  Just checking in.

What's everyone training for?  I had a bit of a setback yesterday when I went to register for the HM I've been half planning to do... only to learn that it's sold out.  My backup race is now out of the picture due to a family obligation that I also learned about yesterday.  (Yesterday was not a good day for motivation, was it?)  So now I'm a Rebel Without A Race.  Humph.

I'm not training for anything at the moment. There's a HM on Memorial Day weekend I would like to register for, not sure I can get up to speed by then. I'm hoping that the VRAA will motivate and inspire me to get my running mojo going. I've been working out, just not running.  Something about the Minnesota winter months that just deplete me.  Today I have big plans: I park and walk to and from work a mile each way, I'm hitting the gym after work for some treadmill and stairstepper time and then some relaxing Lunar Yoga before bed. I figure if I put it out here then I'm committed to doing it.  Rawr!  icandoit icandoit icandoit icandoit icandoit

Hi team.  I took a break from being captain last round, so I'll have to get back in the swing of things.  I suppose I'll manage to pull it together!

Team 2

Amichel

Theia

Big G

Orange Mat

I normally ask people to introduce themselves, but I think you've all been on a team with me at one point or another.  If introductions are needed, please say so!

I'm training for the Half at the Flying Pig in Cincinnati on May 1st.   Today is technically a rest day, but I will get some walking points and may hit the gym for a class later if I can juggle a few other commitments.

Carry on!

Hello team! I'm here and this round is perfect timing for me. I have a half marathon on Sunday (my first!) and a 5k the following weekend. And I'm the type that doesn't like to race, ha.... I'm also on a team for the Ragnar Relay New York that's May 13-14, so as long as I stay uninjured (knock wood!), I should be pretty good for bringing in the running points.

And speaking of points, I went to a 90 minute yoga class this morning (taper, ya know) and the scoring site still says there's a 12 point cap on alt workouts. Is there a work-around in progress for that, or what?

I think I know most of you, by name only though. Amichel, I don't know much about you, other than to thank you for volunteering to be our captain. :)

ETA: Never mind, the caption might say 12 point max, but it took my 18 points no problem.

Ok, so we will do introductions, we'll just give it a different spin:

1) What does your user name on kickrunners represent? How did you choose it?

2) Where do you regularly post?

3) What's your favorite part of VRAA?

4) Is there something new you plan to try this round?

5) Add a new question that you want the team to answer

1) What does your user name on kickrunners represent? How did you choose it?

It's just a mash up of my first and middle name.  Growing up my best friend was also Amy and we didn't like Amy #1 and Amy #2, so we went by Amy'Lynn and Amy'Chelle

2) Where do you regularly post?

30s club mostly.  I try to keep an eye on a few other spots

3) What's your favorite part of VRAA?

meeting new people and having a little extra motivation to tack on a few extra minutes and stick to the extras I know I should be doing more of anyway!

4) Is there something new you plan to try this round?

I'm going to try to go to at least one class a week at the gym, but my priority will be getting the miles in for the race

5) Add a new question that you want the team to answer

I already did this part...

OK, so we are all girls here, wasn't sure. Cool!

1) What does your user name on kickrunners represent? How did you choose it?

My first yoga mat was orange, so that was the handle I used on the yoga forums I used to frequent. I didn't even realize at the time that I picked the name that it shortens to "OM". Kinda auspicious, no? Well, I don't post on yoga forums anymore, and I hardly even practice yoga (though I'm a yoga teacher), but I kinda liked the joke of it, so I kept the name. My current yoga mat (I've gotten several new ones since) is orange once again.

2) Where do you regularly post?

Masters Club. I'm really OLD.

3) What's your favorite part of VRAA?

I normally don't allow myself the luxury of counting walking as part of my exercise. So VRAA gives me the "permission" to slack off without feeling guilty.

4) Is there something new you plan to try this round?

As I mentioned earlier, I'm rather race-phobic, but I'm signed up with 6 other women to run the More Magazine HM this Sunday, an all-women's race in Central Park. So that's about as new as it gets!

5) Add a new question that you want the team to answer

What color is your yoga mat? ;)

Purple but I need to get a new one next time I sign up for a series of classes.

Having my DH in the avatar picture confuses people.  Hopefully I can get a new running picture I like to replace it someday!

Darn it, OM took my color!  Oh well, I'm replying in orange too because I love it. smile.gif

1) What does your user name on kickrunners represent? How did you choose it?

Theia is the Greek word for goddess.  Some of my friends call me Gigi or GG (for Greek Goddess), so I almost chose that but decided Theia was more obscure and therefore more interesting.  It's pronounced theh-AH, which is probably not how you pronounced it in your head.  Am I right?

2) Where do you regularly post?

I'm most regularly a poster in the 30somethings, although I'm FAR too old to pretend I'm a 30something any longer.  Oh well, they haven't kicked me out yet.

3) What's your favorite part of VRAA?

I like getting to know new people from different parts of the website.

4) Is there something new you plan to try this round?

Hmmm, I hadn't planned on it.  I'm open to suggestions.

5) What color is your yoga mat?

Navy blue.  Pretty boring!

6) Add a new question that you want the team to answer.

What new thing should I try this round of VRAA?  wink.gif

1) What does your user name on kickrunners represent? How did you choose it?

My sister and I started calling each other Goon when we were in about 8th grade.  It didn't start off nice.  It was more like omiGOD you are such a GOON!  No YOU are.  NO YOU ARE!!  Screeeeech! Somehow it evolved into a pet name and we call each other Goon all the time now, my Mom refers to us as Goon, our kids call us Auntie Goon.  Anyway, I'm 5 minutes older than she is so I am The Big Gahoona.

2) Where do you regularly post?

I too, regularly post in the 30's, though I'm beyond that age range now.

3) What's your favorite part of VRAA?

I like getting to know new people from different parts of the website.  Same answer as theh-AH

4) Is there something new you plan to try this round?

I've been on a trying new things kick already - new classes, new machines at the gym. The stair machine was harder than I expected!

5) What color is your yoga mat?

I have a green yoga sticky mat and a blue thicker mat that I got because the green sticky mat was so thin, but the blue one wasn't sticky enough and I was sliding on it so I combine the two on my hardwood floors, the green sticky on top of the blue cushy.

6) Add a new question that you want the team to answer.

What is your favorite distance to race? Me, I like the marathon.

6) What new thing should Theia try this round of VRAA?

Hot Yoga!

Well, considering I've only done two 5k's, and the first one was a pretty horrible experience, I'll let y'all know after tomorrow.

What new thing should Theia try this round of VRAA?

How do I find out what she hasn't done yet?? I'm training for a relay in May, so I had to run 3x in one day last weekend, how's about that?

I've done a Ragnar Relay before - sooper fun!

I didn't get my Yoga on last night - C came over and took us out for ice cream.  Did an hour Pilates class and a 45 minute Cable Strength training class this morning.  LOVE the cable class.  I usually feel pukey and require an assist in getting my sports bra off afterward - sure signs of a gooooood workout!

4. I LOVE the stepmill.  Is that the stair machine you did?  The one that looks like a huge staircase?  Love, love, lovesomuch.

6. I used to love 10Ks the most, but now I'd have to say sprint triathlons.  So much fun.

6. (huh?) Oof.  Hot yoga.  I die in a regular vinyasa class!  OK, I'm in!  I'll try it.

The first part of your answer sounds dirty (woo hoo!).  Believe it or not, I have worked out 3x in one day, but I can't remember if all three were runs.  I know at least two of them were.  Hmmm.  OK, I'll give this a shot too!  I can't promise they'll all be long runs.  Or pretty!  biggrin.gif

My triple, or trifecta, was supposed to be 5, 5 and 3 miles. I ended up doing 5.3, 6 and 3.25. I have another one on the schedule for this Sunday of 6, 4 and 4. To best simulate the relay conditions, I do these trifectas with at least 4 hours in between. But no, I don't go sit in a van for the off-hours between runs. icon_tongue.gif

Oh, should we have a team name?

Well, yesterday turned into a rest day due to too many lunges on Monday.  Seriously, it felt as though someone was driving metal stakes directly into my glutes all day yesterday.  Oof.  I'll get some points tonight.

My schedule is all kinds of upside down this week.   I'll get something in later today, but how much will depend on the weather.    It has been quite unpredictable here lately!

Should we come up with a Team name?

I see that Team 3 is now Team Five Guys.

I am totally lacking any creativity at the moment.

Yeah, I asked that same question the other day... not that I'm any more creative... but preferably not something named after a greasy fast food establishment, ick...

So we're not going to be Team Chick-Fil-A.
