Hey guys:

As you begin your 26th VRAA here at Kickrunners.com, we are approaching the 10 year anniversary of the first VRAA. (see wiki and also other post). I've been speaking to BigGahoona about doing a special event this summer (the 27th or 28th VRAA).

I've been speaking to Huddler about helping us find a sponsor that would either pay for or co-op a Special commemorative Tech T for this event. Every participant in the 10th Anniversary event would get a shirt - and if I can swing it, a 'swag bag'. Just like a real race.

So, Since VRAA is now beginning, I figured now would be the time to start seeking input on this and gauge interest. We need to see if we can get a nice group size to commit to the race so Huddler can pitch the idea to potential running sponsors.

If you would be interested in this event, please respond to the poll and then answer a few questions - and add any other ideas or suggestions you may have for this.

1. How many actual races would you run this summer/fall ?

2. If the shirt was a Tech T, would you consider wearing it for your race?

3. If the shirt was co-oped by an entrance fee, would you consider a nominal entrance fee?

4. If a shirt wasn't the right item, what other items would you consider 'worthy' of the 10 year anniversary run

5. Please offer any other comments, ideas, suggestions or input on this topic.

We're going to try to keep this thread up top so it can be responded to. If you know runners who aren't members here or who don't post here but still would do the VRAA or be interested in the VRAA, please let them know.

As always, thanks for your support and good luck to the runners of VRAA #26!

1. How many actual races would you run this summer/fall ? None

2. If the shirt was a Tech T, would you consider wearing it for your race?  N/A

3. If the shirt was co-oped by an entrance fee, would you consider a nominal entrance fee?  No.

Since I'm not running any races, there's no real advertising I could do.  I'll still participate in the VRAA though.

1. How many actual races would you run this summer/fall ? Not sure yet. I've only committed to two, but it's still early.

2. If the shirt was a Tech T, would you consider wearing it for your race? Absotively.

3. If the shirt was co-oped by an entrance fee, would you consider a nominal entrance fee? Yes.

4. If a shirt wasn't the right item, what other items would you consider 'worthy' of the 10 year anniversary run. Hardware - commemorative medal-ish.

5. Please offer any other comments, ideas, suggestions or input on this topic. runNY has asked some good questions.

1. How many actual races would you run this summer/fall ?

April = 2 races (HM and 5k)

May = 2 races (200 mile relay and 5k)

July = 1 race (5k)

October = 1 weekend walking event (39.3 miles)

2. If the shirt was a Tech T, would you consider wearing it for your race?

Depends on the race; for some I'm expected to wear my club's singlet. But sure, I'd be happy to.

3. If the shirt was co-oped by an entrance fee, would you consider a nominal entrance fee?

Certainly.

4. If a shirt wasn't the right item, what other items would you consider 'worthy' of the 10 year anniversary run

A hat maybe? Or a Buff? Honestly, I'm fine with whatever the majority chooses.

5. Please offer any other comments, ideas, suggestions or input on this topic.

Thanks for even coming up with the idea. :)

VRAA is a team event, but you register as an individual. Based on your ability (there's a list of abilities), you're added to a team. I THINK the race director does the team assignments.

There is an online database created by Hairy Trotter - that allows you to log your information there.

I believe VRAA has grown into an 'exercise' event where different exercises are worth different points.

Since it's a Virtual Race, it is a fun run - the teams compete however with each other - normally some smack talking etc... For this event (the Anniversary run), we'll most likely have awards (actual physical prizes). I'm working with BigGahoona on even offering some awards/prizes on the current VRAA.

As far as the KICKrunner version of VRAA - is there another version ?

Anyone else want to offer additional insight, by all means - feel free to interject!

Thanks

Thank You for the info !!

here is another vraa ..  4063 miles (i guess they take you the loooooong way ...),  10 states.  i started it in jan and am still in VA rolleyes.gif .  You can run, walk , bike or do any combination you want.

as far as i can tell tho ... there is no interaction with other participants which is kind of boring  sad.gif

Hey, I like that Homer-inspired banner on top of the forum pages, asking people to respond to this poll... though I think you'd have more traffic here if there was a direct link to bring you to this thread... jus' sayin'....

Ha!

Good Idea!

(I do have a direct link on the front page - but let me see if there's room on the announcement for one. They limit the texts)

Edited to add the link per the GREAT suggestion by OrangeMat

I am in!  I have done a lot of these over the past several years.  However, I will be very busy during the summer months, but should have internet access wherever I am.

1. How many actual races would you run this summer/fall ?

At least 2 Triathlons

2. If the shirt was a Tech T, would you consider wearing it for your race?

No...I would wear for training though

3. If the shirt was co-oped by an entrance fee, would you consider a nominal entrance fee?

Yes...Not sure if I will do any running events or not.

4. If a shirt wasn't the right item, what other items would you consider 'worthy' of the 10 year anniversary run

I like the sock idea, I also think that a nice running cap would be cool as well.

5. Please offer any other comments, ideas, suggestions or input on this topic.

Over the last year or so there hasn't been a lot of interest in the VRAA.  I think this may be a great way to get it going again.

You can see the details of all my workouts on my Blog.  Happy Training Everyone!  Stay safe out there!

2.  Absolutely!

3.  Absolutely, I have no problem with that.

4.  A running shirt would be fine, and awesome.  If people are against this, I say....Bandana!

5.  I would be honored to take part in the tenth anniversary VRAA.

1. How many actual races would you run this summer/fall Probably none, I mostly cycle now

2. If the shirt was a Tech T, would you consider wearing it for your race? Probably not, I never wear the shirt until after I've done the race

3. If the shirt was co-oped by an entrance fee, would you consider a nominal entrance fee? Yes

4. If a shirt wasn't the right item, what other items would you consider 'worthy' of the 10 year anniversary run . A hat I guess, a running hat rather then a baseball cap made out of tech fabric though. I have enough baseball cap type hats and only like a couple of them

5. Please offer any other comments, ideas, suggestions or input on this topic.

I'd love to make this happen - Is there a way we can get 50 people to register? Do you have friends that aren't on Kickrunners who might register for this event?  If we could get enough people to commit, I'm certain we can get a sponsor - if not, we would have to go with a registration fee to offset the cost.

Would you do me a favor and invite your friends to come in and vote ? After 26 events here at kickrunners - there is a history of great participation. Let's make the 10th anniversary one to remember. I'll step up and invest in this - if you'll help me get the bodies to participate with us!

A great idea often times never gets off the ground because the vision isn't seen. See the vision! VRAA 10th Anniversary - Even a VRAA Reunion? Go through the forum and think of ALL the members who've participated but have moved on to other things - do you know any of them and do you keep in contact? Would they come back for the 10th? Suesquatch was a Captain for the first one - I bet she would even consider it! Liam was the other captain - With some persuasion, perhaps they'd step up?

We could make this a great event!

We've got 13 votes but more replies - if you've not voted but replied - please vote. Also - please check with your friends as well. I really think we can get 50 people if we figure out how to get the word out!

I would do it, although I am a newbie at the VRAA.

1. How many actual races would you run this summer/fall ?  Several - at least 1 per month.

2. If the shirt was a Tech T, would you consider wearing it for your race?  Only if you had a women-specific one.  I'm not wearing a man's tech tee.  :)

3. If the shirt was co-oped by an entrance fee, would you consider a nominal entrance fee?  Sure.
