Ran here in 2007 and was very impressed by the organization, course, facilities, and post-race beer and soup.

I hear the course is changing this year - about 4 miles added to the start/finish route - for what I assume is to change the conditions of the crowded bike path near the halfway mark.

Anyone know more about the new course for 2009?

Roots,

You've got a PM.

Not certain - maybe the half marathon. Kind of curious of what the new course will be like.

Salvatore's was a nice, casual place. I wouldn't mind that again.

Come on McKay, give us the scoop on the new course. What's the mystery, the addition of downtown GR hills?

Yes the course looking good/fast! I ran the half in 2007 as well. It is a hidden gem and I hope it stays sort of small. This year the race I believe is the same day as the Detroit Freepress and that will help to keep the small-race flavor.

it was the same day last year too Yo Sake...

The HM course looks really speedy since they took out the only hill. Can't wait for this one.

Me!

Anyone have hotel recommendations or areas of the city to try to reserve lodging?

Yay! I'm in for the half.

Hotel recommendations:

Downtown GR -

If you want something four stars, google Amway Grand Plaza or JW Marriott. They're all on the same block.

If you want to stay out in the 'burbs -

If y'all stay at this one, I can pick you up on race morning and bring you back - it's sorta on my way from home to downtown GR.

Yes, Salvatore's, or a similar equivalent, this would be nice. I remember it was low-key and fun. Not too late would suit SGH well.

Also, SGH and I are coming up on Friday afternoon. I'm running a 5k Saturday morning in Millenium Park. The flyer says cross-country course that I nothing about.

Any Grand Rapids peeps know about the XC course there?
