Happy travelling Dave.

Ellen, glad it was good news. Something that can be dealt with and you can continue working out.

Heading to the gym in a bit. Biking and lifting.

Yes, thanks, I am pleased. I did warn the PT that he would have to be very specific about what I was allowed and not allowed to do; hence the "you can walk backwards on the treadmill at an incline." Anything that aggravates the tendon will impede healing.

One of the ways they break up the scar tissue is with "aggressive massage." Gulp.

Good ones, all.

Good morning all.

Dave good luck with the travel.
Jill have fun at the gym -- thanks for the well wishes.
Flounder nice run -- can't wait to see how FANS24 goes for you and Richard.
Ellen glad PT went well.

Had to run some errands near home this morning, so just 35 minutes on the cross country course for me.

The course was a complete mud fest! Socks and shoes were so bad I put them straight in the trash -- they were due for retirement anyway...

Good runs, everyone! Rest day for me today. Tomorrow, I'm scheduled for an 8-mile long run. This week, I'm going to get out there earlier to avoid the problem with the heat and humidity I had last week.

Morning...

Brethhelm - Enjoy the rest day.
Loopy - An unfamiliar number for you. Glad they were old shoes you wore. Ah, reading further it seems like you're racing this weekend? Good luck?
Flounder - Glad things are feeling good. Let the taper begin!
Jill - Have a great workout.
Dave - Off again? Hope you're not gone too long.
Ellen - Good news finding out what's up. Patience is a little easier when you know and when there's an end in sight.

Rest day for me.

BBS--yours posted twice because my post got eaten!
Ellen--stripping adhesions is SOOooooo much fun!!!
Bret--hopefully you will get cooler weather this weekend.
loopy--sounds like fun?????

Fishbowl for me this morning. 3000meters of speed drills. I may be slow, but I hit all my time goals!!!

I've been working with a nutritionist. My first coach suggested him. He's good. Really good. He worked with the Olympic team. I've been keeping a food/workout log. We finally talked on the phone yesterday. Seems that I don't know how to eat... There are lots of changes that he wants me to make gradually over the next month, then we'll touch base again.

We got a second crate for the pup so that he can sleep upstairs with us. He slept through the night!!! However, the collie didn't. Poor guy has Cushing's which causes him to drink alot. And when he drinks alot, he pees alot.

Good morning everyone. Having a rest day except for some stretching to loosen up the body. I am worn out from running, playing softball and umpiring this week. Hopefully as the day goes along I will not feel so worn out. Keep up the great running everyone.

Ellen- good to see a diagnosis. The massaging sounds painful though. Hopefully it won't be that bad.

Ellen- Enjoy the massage!

Loopy- Loopy my trail brother. Nice job as usual

Bret- enjoy the rest

BBS- Glad the legs felt good. nice work on the 5 and enjoy the 3 today

4Boys:Glad you had a great swim, Nutritionist huh, that would be an interesting thing to learn... although I think if I had a nutrionist he would faint at my diet.

Kfuller: enjoy the rest day.

Rest for me as well and some stretching. maybe a walk tonight. one more run scheduled and than I am done.

Yeah, after the initial "ewwww factor" when my foot first sunk up to the ankle in mud, it was kind of fun -- almost lost my shoe a couple times.

Mind if I ask if/how you are treating your dog's Cushing's?

We are pretty sure our dog has it (our geriatric Bouvier mix, not the new poodle pup) -- she has had the excessive thirst thing for quite a while now, but she just recently developed bald spots which seem to be another symptom. She has a vet appointment coming up -- just wondering what to expect...

Of course, I should probably ask my brother about this (he is a veterinarian)...

Happy Friday everyone!

I did another 3 miles last night, once again super-slow. It's a little humbling to now be going 9:50/mile at 141 bpm. When I was at peak training for Boston, that same HR would have had me running about 8:00-8:15/mile. Between that and getting used to the orthotics, I feel like I'm learning how to run all over again.

Today - another ride after work, weather permitting. There is a possibility of thunderstorms but hopefully they will hold off so I can get 20 miles in.

loopy - nice job in the mud and good luck this weekend

Richard - taper, taper. Enjoy the rest day

KF - have a good rest day

4bm - wow that's a lot of swimming. Smart move on the food log; it may take a while but you'll eventually see a difference

BBS - Nice job on the 5. Nice job on the 5.

Bret - you should be fine for that long run tomorrow. Enjoy the rest

Dan - enjoy your rest day too

Ellen - I'm getting some of that too -- active release massage -- it's a little painful but it really does work.

Flounder - I still think your taper is like a lot of our hard weeks...but enjoy it

Jill - hope that ride was good

Dave - safe travels

loopy--sadly, there is nothing we can do. He has Cushings AND hypothyroidism AND an autoimmune disease. The treatment for one condition is contraindicated with the other. Most of the time he's okay, but a couple times in the past year we thought we were going to lose him. I suspect the stress of the new dog has triggered this "flare up". He's only 9yo.

I was working with a nutritionist 2 years ago when I was training for my first (and to date only) marathon. I really learned a lot and think she really helped me stay healthy and energized during the training.

Ellen - best of luck with that...it will hurt like a bugger but in the end it will probably be the most beneficial part of the treatment along with rest. As far as my "diagnosis" or lack thereof, I just went to the clinic since the trainers told me to. I didn't want my parents to have to shell out loads of money for me to head to some running or sports doctor which was not available where I went to college anyways. That's part of the reason I took 6weeks off...just to be extra careful, and to keep my a little less preoccupied during finals week.

34 mins for me today...first day not running my grassy loop. Instead I took my new racing flats, ran to the track and ran a lap in them. Then I took my shoes off and ran 2miles barefoot on the inside of the track and ran home. I really want to do barefoot stuff like twice a week for as long as possible...during school I have the perfect place - the IM fields....will make a great early morning shakeout run. As for now, I'll tolerate running in countless loops. Recovery run tomorrow and my first hour+ run hopefully on Sunday.

Heading to watch my high school's sectional track meet tonight with the coach and family...should be lots of fun. Also bought an old road bike for $75 last night from a nearby town off of a craigslist ad. Should be lots of fun!!!

Hope every one is have a nice Friday and has a good weekend lined up.

I decided on a rest day, which basically translates to sleeping in until the time I normally get back from running. I'll be shooting for 5 miler tomorrow and 10 to 12 miles on Sunday before my nephew's 1st birthday party.

Hawk - slowly, slowy, catchy monkey... I'm too scared to put on my HR monitor.
Alex - $75 road bike? Sweet. Is it steel, aluminum or cast iron? Also, think you can get to Pleasant Praire for the duathlon in August?

I know it's an old cliche, but you can cut the atmosphere with a cricket stump

I went to my local running store at lunch and stocked up on GU for the next two long runs. I guess that energy gels must be a high-theft item there, because everytime I go to look through their selection one of the staff immediately approaches me with a "may I help you?" If it gets to the point where it gets too aggravating, I'll just buy my GU by the case online.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't know how many times yesterday, even at my mind-numbingly slow pace, that the HRM started beeping at me for being out of zone...or how many times I growled "f*&^ you!" back at it.

Alex - you gotta spill the beans about the bike. That does sound like a nice deal that you got. And I'm jealous re: the barefoot runs; unfortunately I think those are now a part of my past. I'm going to miss doing them.

Wimpy 5.4 mile bike ride. It's just one of those lazy days for me. Weight session was good though. I'm going on 12 days so far without a rest day and none in sight anytime soon thanks to the strength training (5 days a week for the next 2 wks.)

lol Super old school road bike...Schwinn World Sport. 1980s bike, great condition. Tires a bit worn but I can replace that once I figure out what size they are. I'll get pics up this weekend. I'm gonna pimp it out with LEDs so my mom will let me ride it to and from work. (No easy task when you leave work well after dark and your mom is a trauma specialist lol.)

John - I wish I had a lake nearby that wasn't full of sewage and other disgusting crap because I think a tri would be so much fun.

Chris - I wouldn't neglect the barefoot. I think it is very important to stay true to how we were evolved to run, and doing a bit each week to keep in touch with that is crucial for me. I agree it would not be smart for you currently to do it, but once you are back to running regularly again, I don't see how barefoot strides or sessions of diagonals on a pristine soccer field would do any harm.
