Friday morning, I came into my kitchen to find hundreds of tiny ants crawling all over part of my counter (no I'm not dirty. I think they are coming from next door), including my toaster. I threw out bread and other things that got contaminated when I sprayed the Raid. I can wash most things like the coffee maker, sugar jar, etc so that there is no residual poison on them. But the toaster I can't really do more than wash the outside. I think some ants and ant spray got inside the toaster slots, though! It's not a new toaster, but I hate to buy another one since this one works just fine (except the ants and poison!), but I have no idea how I could rescue it... Ants are icky and the thought that they might have been in there freaks me out.

So, what would you do?

I would run several pieces of bread through it and then let it sit for a day and run a couple more through and see how it all smells and if seemed kosher, I'd probably take a bite and go from there.

How well do you like your current toaster?

Anyway, they're not too expensive, are they?

I'm not in love with my current toaster tbh. I was thinking of donating it :uhoh: and just forking out some dough for a new one. I'm guessing they're like $20?? It's been a while since I bought one. I just hate being wasteful. Geez. I sound like my dad!

If you wouldn't use it due to ick factor, don't donate it!!!

You're afraid of ants if I remember correctly, aren't you?

I'd toss it. Toasters can be pretty cheap. Like less than $10

Ants won't hurt you. I unknowingly ate some leftover pizza that had ants all over it and wasn't harmed. It is a bit un-nerving to suddenly notice them on the last of your 4 pieces of pizza though...

Man vs. Wild's Bear Grylls would be make ant sandwiches. It's high quality protein.

Still would need a through wipe down to get rid of the Raid residue and that can be a pain if the spray got into the guts of the toaster. Enough that if the insides of the toaster are already gummy, I would toss it.

Fill the sink with water, place toaster in sink, plug in toaster. Voilà! Ant problem solved.

I like this solution best!

And RFH That totally made me gasp in horror!! ICK!

I've been good about using stuff that may have had ants on it (plate, spoon, etc that were in the sink at the time and have been washed in the dishwasher), but the fact that there could still be some lingering ant guts or raid on the toaster freaks me out. It probably won't hurt me but still.. it's the thought! I'm guessing that shelling out some dough for a new one is wise. I need to exchange a $20 item at Target this weekend so I guess I will get a toaster instead!

Get rid of it. Not becuase it's unsafe, but because every time you use it, you'll be thinking, "This is my ant toaster." But in the future, rubbing alcohol works just as well as ant poison, and not dangerous to you.

Ask your doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

Nope. Take it to work and leave it in the break room so others can use it. Nobody will die and you can smile that secret little smile of ANTicipation all day long!

If it was just the ants that were worrying you, I'd say a good burn-in would be enough. I dunno about for the spray, though. I imagine you'll get the taste of it on your toast.
