He sent me a fbook message.. since I primarily wear Asics (2000s, 2100s), I'm not that familiar with other varieties and foot issues. Any advice??

"alright brother, gonna need some more advice from you...

my big ogre self needs some advice on how i can get the right running shoe. i have several different shoes i run in, and sometimes (i cant remember which) the shoes will hurt the bottom of my pretty early in the run.

now i think i am flat footed, so is there a specific brand i should look for?
some kind of soles i need to buy?
a place where they can test my feet?

any advice will help

Tell him to get to his local running store. They will watch his gait and recommend shoes for him. It's the best way to get started!!

For me, being the big, ogerish and flat footed type, use the 'Brooks Beast' with a 'Superfeet' insert.

Works wonders!!!

He'll have the best chance to get the right shoes by getting professionally fitted. Get him to a running store for his first pair. They won't cost him more than retail. If he's the nervy sort, he could get their advice and then go home and buy them on-line.

Or if there's no running store locally available, get the Brooks that tag recommended or higher end NB - the 990 series is good and my dad had success with the 850 series, although I'm not sure they make it any more.

I have flat feet and I swear by Sauconys with Powersteps orthodics. But then again, I have the classic Saucony foot, narrow in the heel and wide in the toe.
