Not sure this is the best idea I ever had, but I'd be willing to try to answer your questions. uhoh2.gif

Can you give dg1 bad credit so he'll never get another, mortgage, car loan, line of credit, or cell phone and have loan sharks after him?

The way payment/ commission is set up in most banks made being 'wrong' inevitable. it was going to happen.

FTR, I wasn't wrong.

When I say $88,000 I should quantify that. The loan principal was $88,000. I reposessed the collateral and sold it for $60,000. So, the dead chargeoff was $28,000. The bad thing is that there is no way I should have made the loan to start with.

That's not so bad. We had a guy ship $70,000 of the wrong material (all custom cut) to a job site years ago.

Then we ended up having to pay for having it hauled away, too. uhoh2.gif

Do all banks use the same model to calculate credit worthiness?
Is it up to each bank?
Is it up to each banker?
What model do you use? FRICT?

No, all banks do not use the same model, but they are similar.
It is up to Each bank to a certain extent, Banks are audited by state banking commissions, the OCC and the Fed, and each audit brings new recommendations on what can be done better, differently, how to tweak a certain calculation to be more conservative, or less conservative based on the economy at the time. How to evaluate collateral, etc. It's pretty fluid, actually.

It is not up to each banker because that would open the bank up to a lawsuit for unfair credit practices. banks typically have a pretty stringent credit policy that all bankers and underwriters have to follow that outlines exactly how to make calculations, outlines benchmarks, etc.

I'm not going to talk about where I work smile.gif
