I need some answers. With shorts, I normally wear sandals like this:

I'm looking for some shoe options that I can wear with shorts. I need to know if I should wear socks with them or not too. I've found some options:

or

or

Do any of these work with shorts? I see these as not-so-casual options. For casual I have the sandals and maybe something like this:

Ideas? Advice? Pics?
Thanks!

I would be fine with that, although I work in a casual environment with primarily engineers and mathematicians. Financial offices or businesses might not like it. I'm sure you know quite well the level of formality at your place of work.

Please don't wear socks with the shoes though.

my personal take is never to wear socks with shorts UNLESS you are wearing tennis shoes.

but i'm pretty much anti-sock...so take that for what it's worth.

lol.
I know guys who wear hiking boots with wool socks with their shorts all summer. Granted, I wear that too when I'm headed to the mountains, but not to lunch or whatever.

w/shorts, I go with something nearly identical to your last option - no sox, of course.

I would go with the sandals with the toe guards. I will wear loafers with shorts and either wear no socks or the really short ones that land somewhere below your ankle. I cannot bring myself to wear sneakers unless I am running.

I might wear the bottom pair with shorts and ankle running socks.

For work? Really?

I would suggest any of those EXCEPT the bottom pair. If you're hiking around or doing something active, that's obviously another matter entirely. Wear whatever socks you want. But for strolling around town or at work or something, I'd shy away from the last pair. They're a little..... ugly. (In my opinion, so is the penultimate, but that's probably just personal preference).

Of course, I wear ugly-as-f*ck Chaco sandals everywhere, so I'm a) not one to judge, and b) a huge hypocrite, since the thongs or last pair are probably the most comfortable.

If I can plug Chaco one more time: they've got great arch support. I live in flip flops, and I developed plantar fasciitis because of the lack of support in most pairs. Chaco does NOT have that problem, and they'll re-sole and re-strap for free -- lifetime warranty!

Topsiders...like the 3rd pair down, no socks are the fashion staple on the Cape, North Shore, prep set. I f you want to break them in wear them in the ocean a few times after purchase.
Either that or go with the last pair of sandals. I vote a def. no on anything brown AND suede though.. to heavy.

The docksiders with no socks or the sandals on the bottom. I am assuming this is for just heading out socially and not for a work environment.

No socks with shorts ever, unless you are running/hiking. But what do I know about fashion....

Surely he's not wearing these to work... the Army is pretty specific, and I doubt Keens are on their list. biggrin.gif

Just about any choice you offered is good. I don't mind wearing low-rise running socks with the last one.

I wear socks with my keens when we camp. No one sees me and it keeps my feet from being FILTHY.

Nope. Ditch the socks. Let the dogs be free.
I like the 2nd option. The top ones are also funky, and would look great with jeans as well.
May I also suggest a pair of leather thong flip flops instead of those plastic monsters at top?

These are off-duty options only. biggrin.gif (And thanks, FloridaB!)

I'm good when it comes to hiking and such. I've got the sandals that I like, and I don't wear shorts when I'm getting dressed up to go out to dinner or whatever.

So I'm thinking, it's over 80 outside on a Saturday, I'm going to run some errands and then meet DW for some lunch. I'm wearing a polo (untucked) over a pair of khaki cargo shorts, and I put on...?
Which shoes? I don't want to always wear sandals.
