Are you in the same socio-economic class as your parents? Have you moved up or down?

My parents changed socioeconomic classes in the course of my childhood. (downwards)

I'm not in the socioeconomic class I spent most of my childhood in. I was until I met my DH, but I was only in my early twenties, and on my way to climbing above.

About the same as my parents, but more upwardly mobile.

Better off than DH's parents were at our ages.

I've moved up a few classes from where my parents were/are today.

Slightly above where my parents were, but much more stable. Folks did almost no planning for the future so there were several occasions in which they were on the verge of slipping downwards. When my dad died, my mom slipped down a bit.

Up and down. As luck would have it, a couple of my dad's job losses from those iconic companies everyone thought they would work for forever sort of redefined "stable" in my parents' eyes.

I think that sort of thing has redefined "stable" and "loyalty" in almost everyone's eyes.

Down a little while the kids were little, but now that they're mostly grown, back up.

On the surface I don't look like the socioeconomic class I'd probably be categorized as based on finances alone.

It is funny our "expectations" of what certain classes should present like.

Financially I am well below where my parents are now. However, because I am childless, houseless and carless...probably a little better off than they were when I was little. Though, debt is debt.

Educationally, I am the only one in my family that went to graduate school. However, they are both college educated professionals with more than 30 years each in their chosen profession, so my extra degree isn't worth much.

I plan on marrying rich...
