"What were we talking about? Oh yes, pancakes. Mmmm....pannnncakes." - courtesy of the neosporin/maple syrup thread ...

When you have a stack attack, how do you get your fix?

1) homemade, from scratch
2) box mix, sorta from scratch
3) restaraunt, I don't MAKE the cakes
4) I don't eat pancakes, the only real cake comes with icing and isn't flat!

the PRT is not somewhere to drop my morals and ethics and roll in the mud and muck and pretend those I am talking to aren't really people at all and it's alright to treat them like dirt.

You must have real maple syrup. Commercial syrup was partially real until about 1970.
then the "new and Improved" syrup came out. I noticed despite being 12, I was traumatized.

My pancakes never come out as good as the restaurant. Nearest I come to making pancakes on my own is Eggo's.

DOUBLE DUDE. Ever since my trip to Vermont last fall, I can't eat anything that doesn't come directly from the farm. Luckily I bought enough to last me til I go back this fall. I hope.

The only place i generally eat pancakes is IHOP and it has to be the harvest grain and nut. those are the bomb.

Or if I do have pancakes, I'm not too picky. Just as long as they aren't rubbery, I'm fine.

You're seriously lacking an "all of the above" option.

Yes, from scratch are great. The other options all have their place. The effort to reward ratio is quite high for some mixes and restaurants.

I can see the restaurant being a player in that scenario ... but even (most?) box mixes require adding eggs, liquid, and some form of oil/butter, so really not less effort than homemade batter, imho ... once you find a recipe you like

Wasn`t there a comedian that had a skit about pancakes that went like, "Bites 1 through 3 are awesome, but by the 20th bite, you`re thinking Why did I make these?"

I like the real maple syrup but my DH refuses to eat it. It has to be the container of colored HFCS or he doesn't want it.

I think a lot of times the tastes you like are going to be determined by what you grew up eating. I bet there's a bunch of kids and young adults now who think all the fake stuff tastes better.

My wife insists she ate vegetables as a kid. I swear I did not even take more than a bite of vegetables until I was about 14. But I love them now. So its not what you like as a kid for sure.

Oh, I understand. But that doesn't mean he isn't c.r.a.z.y.

It's just that the fake stuff is so, um, gross. Gloppy and wrong. But as long as I don't have to eat it, it's not a problem!

Home made. Best are DW's apple / sausage pancakes, and only real maple syrup will do for me. Rest of family, like QN's DH, only like the fake stuff. In our house, we call it "fake maple" or "faple" for short.
