Yes, they are.  Some brands make you take 3 of them 2x per day too.  Ick.  I like this kind b/c you only take 2 a day.  I also have to take them close to a meal too or they make me feel icky.  BUT, it is definitely worth it for what it does for my knees.

Fish oil - I did recently start taking that (as did the dog).  I do feel the benefits (target brand right now....i'll check that one out when my supply is depleted) . However, with my ankle issues, I thought it couldn't HURT to take a joint supplement.

i am trying to remember the brand though.  starts with a g

Ha!  Great pic Duck!

Fish oil - EW.

I just realized that to get into Corral B again for the Chicago Marathon, I need to really up my game this Spring to qualify. Right now, I can only get into C with my times from Eugene and Grand Rapids.  Guess it is good to keep me motivated, right?

that's one of the benefits of the brand I posted the link to.  Comes in variety of flavors.  We get the vanilla.  Tastes like vanilla icing.  Mixed in with a greek yogurt is phenomenal.

Short run this morning.   I know I need to get back into this slowly, but what I did shouldn't count as running.*  Unless you're 143 years old...

Knee held up ok.  Not great, but ok.   CV conditioning also needs to come back - more than I knew.   Baby steps, right?

Doesn't matter much, because it was a nice morning, and it was SO great to be out there.  I'm happy to be making progress and to know that there isn't anything structurally wrong with my knee that will get worse just b/c I'm running.

* I'm reminded of the old quote - wasn't it from Cuz?  Something like -- Any distance that was in front of you that is now behind you -- freakin' counts.

I think I got that right.   biggrin.gif

Fish Oil - I take it for my heart health.   Had no idea it could help my joints as well.  I've been considering an additional supplement.  Despite the avatar, I am not a skinny runner guy, and my joints take a beating when I run...

the fish oil i am taking is just a pill and has no taste

Probably not a brand name, but the supplement itself is glucosamine/chondroitin (often also with MSM).  It is one of the only supplements that has actually had clinical trials/studies.  http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/glucosamine/NS_patient-glucosamine.  According to my doctor, it helps 1 in 4 that take it.  The horse pills suck, but it is totally worth it for me.  Just find a brand that you only have to take 2 once a day.  (some require you to take 3 2x a day, which is obviously ridiculous).

gOv - that is an awesome quote

hmmm..maybe it is the same one then.

Mine has those compounds and I do only need to take 2 with a meal.  The pills are a speckled brown. I wouldn't say they are HUGE but they don't taste all that great.

If you already take them, you definitely don't want to take more.

BTW - that jacket is totally unflattering on me.  Boo.

Nothing big.  I did a run on Sunday in an old(er) pair of shoes and the knee bothered me during it a little.  I didn't think much of it, but after doing an 8 mile tempo run on Monday (in newer shoes), the knees started to really ache.  And it's been cranky enough ever since Monday that I've decided to stay off it.  I'll give it another couple days of rest, I think...

I just received the best e-mail.  One the girls that was in my GOTR program last Fall can't do it this spring because her parents simply cannot afford it - even at the reduced rate based on their family income.  SO, I offered her a scholarship.  :)  Her mom was over-the-top happy and her thank you e-mail just totally made my day.  I have really been trying to push scholarships (both at our county level and my local program) and have been able to fund 2 in my community this spring.  For the most part, I will be working with the school principals/guidance counselors to identify girls who could really benefit from the program, but may not know about it or be able to afford it.  However, when I heard this girl, who is a great runner and LOVES GOTR, couldn't do it, I went ahead and offered it to her.

Afternoon all!  Thanks for all the messages and good vibes, I'm looking forward to being around all my family again this weekend; flying out to STL in the morning.  Today I got a much needed boost in meeting up with Missy and AK for lunch and hanging out.  Only wish I didn't have to return to the office

(((Mindi’s neck))))

Have a great trip, Brandy!  And good luck to you both  p.s. should we assume Baggs will be sporting a tiara?

Maureen – hope all went well!   And good luck to you too, Litch

Continued good luck to you Kath

Hahahahah, Mila to the rescue!

I recently started taking some joint support stuff.  Man, I feel old :)

yeah boB - what's up with that?

Brandy - one of my teamates is down at Disney for the Princess race too.  Look for her?  LOL...just kidding.  It's my friend Jennifer who was on the cover of RunnersWorld.  If you could find her and ask her for her autograph, that would be hilarious!  Especially since she wouldn't know that I put you up to it.  :)

Man, searching on kick is frustrating.  I'm trying to find the 30s wiki (I think it was a wiki) with all the definitions, blog links, etc.   The quote is probably in there, but it was something like...

Every freaking mile that was in front of you that is now behind you freaking counts.

Tim - what is she going to be running?  ha!

Maria - he keeps on talking about a tiara but dang it....no!  I don't want anything slowing him down.  I want an award!!

So, I am researching an issue for a federal lawsuit we are involved in.   Much of my research keeps pointing me back to a book called Moore's Federal Practice.

I told Theia about it in an email.   Here's the exchange:

Me:

This book would save countless hours of research, and the book itself is considered to be a legal authority.  Unlike most practice guides, this is one to which attorneys often cite in legal memoranda, etc.

The cost of this gem???    $5721.00.

Yeah....  This is why you can generally only find it in law libraries.

Theia:

Baaahahahaha.  Maybe the attorneys who use it are the ones who are well-rested.  :)

*side note ---   When I tried to change the color of the text to set it apart, her name would NOT change from black to blue...     Hmmmmmm....  dontknow.gif

Time wise, I guess she'll be between 1:36 - 1:38.  She will probably be in a shirt from her running company, a pink shirt with SMRC (sweaty moms running club)  Www.sweatythenewhot.com

Yeah, check out their website.  I get to train and race with all of those hot chicks!!!  Woot!  Their story is funny, it has to do with one mom telling another mom that a 3rd mom is always sweaty when she picks up her kids in car pool.  Once they heard about it, they were like why not?  Sweaty is good!
