I was felled by a GI bug last week, but seem to have finally recovered. My appetite returned on Friday, and I started running again on Saturday, seemingly no worse for the wear. Today I got out and ran 10.13 miles in 1:29:05 (8:48 pace), SO happy to be running healthy again!!

Inaugural run with my new balaclava, to keep out the cold and the windy.

tw, good job, but write your name and address on the sticks, just in case it's alzheimer's and not aliens

I hope to be able to do a little easy biking this afternoon as I'm still trying to work out some soreness and kinks from yesterdays longish outing in the mountains.....I knew going in it was over my head in terms of my lousy conditioning and sore foot, and I was right.........if not for the beauty of the scenery, and the fact it was just a perfect day to be in the woods, it would have been a slow painful mistake....but except for the too close bear encounter, I loved it

good running all

10mi ez slow jog, recovery after yesterday's 109mi bike ride. first 20mi and last 40mi of yesterday's ride was a blow-out wind-fest. last 30mi straight into a 20mph headwind, gusting to 30mph. u.g.l.y. finished it, stronger for doing all the cycling; but now it's time to focus on running.

Grrr, my rear still hurts (narrowing down the malady to piriformis), so my run was about 100 steps and then U-turned back to the car. Back to the elliptical-with-flailing-arms! I miss running outside and The Sous-Free One is not making this any better.

OK those of you stateside...we got ourselves a big week of Turkey Trots coming up. If you don't race, just show up to jog along with the crowd. Irunmike won a turkey already -- let's all win turkeys!

Finished! 26.2 in 4:43, slower than I had wanted, and mostly due to calf pain that began at mile 16 and didn't let up until mile 24. Mostly I ran solo, though my summer running partner met me around mile 15. We parted maybe 4 miles later (it's all still kinda fuzzy right now). Then at the end, MrOM surprised me by waiting for me at my car in the park. I had a feeling he might do that.

OM! OM! OM! Woot.

6.4 miles this afternoon, all reflectorized. with the return leg in the dark. I needed 6.2 miles to get to 1000 for the year and ran .2 extra for good measure.

The main aspect of this route, which I've always avoided in the past, is a 3/4 mile long hill with a 200 foot elevation gain on the return leg. Seemed like the first 1/8 mile had 100 feet of gain by itself, but I'm sure it was just a wee bit steeper than the rest of it. But it was a "What have I done to myself?" moment, that's for sure.

congrats OM! Now you know you can do this distance and that's a very good time too!

Glad you are feeling better Tom - slowly but surely.

nice weekend of workouts MC!

3.5 mile slow recovery run for me today. mostly hills in my neighborhood and it was a slow run - 10:30 average.

Great run, OM. I probably would have wimped out with the calf pain. Nice of MrOM to be there waiting for you.

Nice bike ride, mc!

Sorry your rear is hurting, Econo. Let's some of us win tofurkeys!

Pie, I was wondering how your outing went. I'm glad you got to enjoy the beauty without being attacked by a bear.

Sure wish that foot would stop being a bear.

I'm glad you're feeling better Robin.

I didn't even lace up today. The fiery sore throat I had Friday slowly headed south and I felt yucky and had a slight chest cough today.

It was too beautiful to stay inside, though, so I took it easy by cutting some wood and mowing a field.

The field is short enough now for xc running and skiing.

I raked up some of the grass/leaves mix into two big piles for the garden.

Somehow I'm exhausted now after taking it easy. The sunset was beauuuuutiful.

Now go look after that calf.

What's this about a bear, Pie???? Do tell!

Nada for me today. Slept in as the power was out for ~6 hours this morning and since the temp inside dipped to 57°F, I really didn't feel like getting out from under those nice warm covers.

Terrific day OrangeMat. I hope you post the pictures!

Robin, I am glad to see you running healthy again.

Econo, butterfly hugs as you deal with that periformis. ouch.

Pie, no pictures of the bear? It sounds like you had a great trail run yesterday. I am jealous.

6 miles this afternoon in 21F sstrong wind and snow. I had it with running after one hour...I can not imagine Erika being out there for hours running a 20 miles in worse conditions.

25 miles total for my wings this week.

OM! OM! OM! That's just plain terrific!

Got on the elliptical and ellipticalled for almost 40 min before getting kicked off by the next person who had signed up for it...* I headed over to the Spinny Bike of Death (spinning 100 rpm on this thing is a sweat-flinging ordeal) for 20 min, and then over to the rowing machine for a final 10 minutes of Rowing Boredom. A great workout!

*So, regarding ellipticals...why go "forward" or "backward"...isn't it just the same motion? I do what the machine tells me to. Today I ignored the flailing arms and went hands-free. I think that's a good subtle workout for my core, just to keep from toppling over.

Thankfully, no time for bear pics, even if I had been carrying a camera, which I was not. Usually when I see one it's at quite a distance. This time, I rounded a switchback and he/she was maybe 50 yards ahead and just off the trail. Too close for comfort. Luckily, my arrival was quickly noted and the bear made one odd sound and scampered down the hillside into the woods. Just a couple hundred yards further up the trail, I came across 3 campers who had a fire burning. I would guess the bear had been testing the air to find out what was cooking for breakfast.

Thanks, Mariposai! I could tell someone was thinking of me and my beastly run. I didn't have any wind, and it wasn't snowing, but it had snowed quite a bit the last couple of days, and I was out before the snow plows. So it was almost three hours of playing "chicken" with the cars, stumbling through the deep snow at intersections and the parts I had to go on the trail. I kept thinking "if I quit now, I'd only have to do xx miles on the treadmill to make 20" but I really really didn't want to do that. Finished with 20.1 at 8:32 avg pace. Bring on taper!

Congratulations on your 26.2 Orange Mat! That's awesome that you could do that mostly by yourself. Most people really need either the crowd support or the comraderie of fellow runners/racers to finish that full distance. You rock!
