I ate this last night while relaxing on our deck.

 

DQ Peanut Buster Bar

 

Check out the caloric content. Shit, I can feel my arteries clogging up already.

Perfect timing on this thread.  Last night we were supposed to have had broiled salmon w/ a fennel slaw, grilled asparagus, & green beans for dinner.  DW & I both had very long days at work, plus a rough evening with The Baby Anna.  Neither of us felt up to cooking. So, we ordered Mexican carry-out instead.  I had 2 sopes plus half of DW's rice & all of her beans.  Of course I was completely full after the first sope but ate all of the second one anyway.   Mexican food late at night = miserable early AM run.  Bleh.

Never ruin it by looking it up after it has already been consumed.

I know right?...the woman came home with a couple dozen tamales last night from a friend at the office...I couldn't stop...

Fat/calorie content--rarely.  On a long ride (50+miles) son1 and I will stop at a gas station and get Little Debbie "fat bombs"--chocolate cookie with icing filling.  I think they are 300+ calories, 90% from fat.  Meh... whatever.  We're burning 2000+ calories.  As long as my weight is fairly steady, I don't worry about it.

 

Now, when it comes to food choices...  I KNOW that blueberries rip up my gut like nothing else.  Last year, the night before a race I stayed with my cousin.  She fixed this beautiful fruit salad.  You got it--with blueberries.  I knew better, but it tasted soooooooo good!!!  The next morning, I was fine on the swim.  During the bike my gut started to rumble.  Once on the run, you've never seen someone race to the POJ like I did!

I broke down and ate at McPossums today.  Grilled chicken club, cheeseburger & fries.  I don't really want to know the fat/cholesterol/calorie numbers.

We went to Creole Creamery in New Orleans the other day....they were featured on food network "Kid in a candy shop"

 

anyway....I had  abita ale and corriander ice cream.....surprising it was really good.

Don't know the calories or fat and don't want to.

After a very frustrating morning during which nothing fit me properly, I regret pretty much every meal and snack over the past, oh, 4 months.

Related question:

 

How do people who live alone find the motivation to cook healthy meals?  I end up having crap for dinner (cereal, hummus, PB&J) because by the time I'm done work and working out, it's 8 p.m. and I have no energy left to cook for myself.  :(  

 

I also am finding that I'm no longer liking any of my easy, cheap standby meals.  They just don't taste good to me.  At what point do your tastebuds start changing??? 

 

Any suggestions?

I continue to enjoy blueberries, pizza, and mexican food even though they DOUBLE my usual number of pitstops. OY!

I do it by working out in the a.m. and making dinner right after work (approx 5 pm).  My biggest problem is staying awake in the evening until a normal bed time.

I am leaving tomorrow on vacation so have no desire to cook tonight other than to throw a family size Papa Murphy's pizza into the oven: Chicken, Bacon, Ranch!

You need to plan it out, and cook on the weekends.  Crock pots and long cooking are best, since you don't have to take time slaving over a stove doing every little thing.

 

Over the course of 3 of 4 weekends, you can make several dishes and freeze them.  That way, you don't have to eat the same thing every day.  Of course, you need to continue this every weekend, to keep a rotating "stock" in the freezer.

 

In the morning, take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge.  When you get home after work, pop it in the microwave.

For some reason this never works for me. 1) because my freezer is tiny and I would never have space 2) because I dont like to spend all weekend cooking plus most weekends I am not even home 3) Food (especially veggies) taste better fresh.

 

As one who lives alone I tend to BBQ quick meals (mostly veggies), or stir fry up some veggies, or steam some and pair with microwaved wild rice, cook up a quick omelete, etc. Nothing I cook on a weeknight generally takes more than 30 minutes.

I better spend some time learning to cook up some meals - I just went in on a CSA.  Granted, my parents and some of my sibs could help out in terms of not letting it go to waste, but I figure if I'm going to fork over the dough to buy it, I better eat it, right?

 

Had a Chipotle chicken bowl today...it was at least better than the burrito in that there wasn't any tortilla involved in the consumption, but still probably not the best choice

I found it easier when I lived alone! LOL. I plan a lot ahead of time and do big cooking sessions that last me the week. If you want any good new recipes, I am sure I can find you some good ones. DO you have Tosca Reno's cook books?

 

I have a rice cooker and make brown rice on a timer, then a quick stirfry and i have a great, complete meal :) Or even faster, brown rice + chickpeas + nut butter or tahini + splash of soy or shoyu = yum yum yum yum. :)

I suspect the hound dog is having one of those.  I make pizza every Friday.  One pizza (two pieces each) feeds the whole family.  For whatever reason, today only half the pizza got eaten.  The other half got left on the kitchen island.  Somehow, the hound got to it.  He ate four whole pieces!  I came in and the hound looked really guilty and really fat.  At the vet this week, he tipped the scales at 18lbs.  Tonight, he's 21lbs.
