Whether your fun means eating a bunch of hamburgers with gusto, enjoying lots of beer, or hanging with your friends/family... size the day, people! Rawr!
VTFU / Seize the day Weekend FUN 7/24 & 7/25
Not much fun today since I'll be in the heat humidity all morning/early afternoon. It's 80* already and it's only 6:30. This is going to hurt.

Good morning! I'm on babysitting duty pretty soon. My SIL and BIL are heading to Nashville to see Paul McCartney and I'm watching their 4 kids until their nanny is back in town tomorrow. We'll be doing lots of indoor activities since it's going to be hotter than heck this weekend! I'm thinking the air and space museum might do the trick.
I hope everyone has a beyond awesome weekend!!!
ooofff! careful out there, peeps! hydrate, hydrate!
safe travels back, dan.
we arrived late last night to the hamptons and i'm sitting on the beach under a huge 'brelly (and a huge belly) with bagels and iced coffee. gonna be a sweaty weekend but nothing a few iced bevvies can't take care of. enjoy your weekends, everyone!
Morning!
Glazing pots today, but won't actually fire the kiln tomorrow because I don't want to blow out the power. (It's a huge draw of power and everyone in the city has a/c going full bore.)
Fun: I have about 20 rows left to finish a hat I started last night. It's sooo soft, and I'm happy with how the 2 strands of striped yarn are working together. And then I can start on the math for my next sweater. I have a pattern, but I think the way it's constructed is stupid so I'm re-working it my own way. The bonus of that is that I won't have to sew any seams, and I can work from my own measurements so it will actually fit. HA!
I slept in until nearly 11. Ahhh, it felt wunnerful. :) It's nasty hot outside so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself this weekend since I have no set plans. The jazz and rib fest is going on downtown but I don't think I want to spend a few hours outside in the heat during the day and I don't like going to the festivals solo at night.
Hey, are we going to have a baby pool for Missy?
Kris
Hey everyone! Have fun Missy!
Fun for me so far: I slept until 10 am this morning. That would be 11 beautiful hours of sleep. Boy did I need that. Now I am sipping coffee and just ate 2 doughnuts. ![]()
We've had crazy crazy storms here and its been hot and really humid. Milwaukee is in a "state of emergeny" as it got over 8 hours of rain during a very short time on Thursday night. I actually read a sink hole formed downtown and actually consumed a large SUV. Crazy stuff.
Fun: not sure yet but I'm gonna make it happen in same shape today!
Kris & Mindi - you guys took my sleep, I was up at 4:15 in prep for the race today :) I'll def by napping later!
Good luck Maria!
Not fun: swimsuit shopping. But, alas, we are going to the WI Dells soon to celebrate both my and my son's birthday. SO, I ordered a couple from Athleta. I thought I'd get 2 and a cover-up and send anything back if I didn't like it.
Fun: I got them today and I love them!! Check it out:

Well, I think they are cool. My son? He doesn't like them. Says not enough "pizazz" pshhhhhh.
I think they're great RIL!
Hat is done. Now to dig out my calculator.
RIL - wha? You don't get much more pizzazzy than that! LOVE those.
mmm pizzazzey makes me think of pizza. mmm pizza. and did someone mention donuts??
Temps are actually on the cool side here today - it's currently 74! Made for nice running weather this morning! Still kinda humid out there though.
OHHH that reminds me I forgot to post this in the running thread too but I'll post it here too. The Sweatvac hat is AWESOME! My wicking shirt was still soaked and sticking to me by the end of the run but I did NOT have to wipe sweat out of my eyes once! Yahoo! I'm buying some more of those babies! $10 grab bag, you don' t know what you're going to get but I don't care. They work.
FUN: DD is chomping at the bit to go somewhere and do something, but she doesn't know what. So we'll go do something fun as soon as she figures out what that is. :D
The polar bears were there so that two good looking people could have hot caged sex.
Hi all - with the unexpected day off (last minute changes meant that I didn't have to go help my dad on his casino trip), I'm going to head off in a bit to maybe experiment with some photo shooting (as posted on the new photo finish thread.)
Safe travels heading back, Dan!
Those swimsuits look awesome RiL...and yeah, I saw that train of storms you're getting on the satellite images on the Weather Channel the other night. Hope you folks dry out soon
Sweatvac Hats - I bought one branded with the Tucson Marathon logo while I was out there (since their T-shirt was neither tech nor very inspired; not that its a huge deal, but I've gotten tech shirts and/or more inspired cotton tees from smaller attended and/or smaller distance races) while I was out there; it definitely is a very good hat for keeping the sweat out of the eyes. Turns out to be one of the better purchases I've made at an run expo
howdy peeps.
fun: I spent the day on my own, went to another beach (not the one which our rental is on); I needed a change of scenery. This one has a LOOOOONG boardwalk over the salt marsh (apparently the 2nd largest salt marsh in the US), and you can jump off the boardwalk into the water way below if you are so inclined. You can also rent kayaks. I went to the other, more beachy side of the park. All of it was lovely. Pretty quiet there too, but pretty and different. I went swimming for a long while and sat in my beach chair with my feet in the tidal pool and read for hours. Then i took myself to a little local place I'd never been to ( Marshland Restaurant and Bakery) and grabbed a sandwich and delish magic bar and ate at a picnic table outside (I'd have eaten inside, but my swimsuit was still damp.) I'll definitely go back there too.
not fun: my mom is making me a little bit nuts. Sigh.

Yeah, I have a blog....
Alright. I sent this to my MIL tonight who has had a really hard couple (few, many) years. And I know all of you would appreciate too, so I share and wish you all a great day:
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25.. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
27. Always choose life..
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
42. The best is yet to come.
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."
RIL That is some GOOD stuff. I saved it as a note in FaceBook so I can refer to it often. Thanks!
Have they added more smileys yet? I see notworthy on there and I didn't think that was there before?
That's awesome, RIL. Thanks for posting it.
It is going to be a long day here. The kiddos fell asleep well after 11 and, all but 2, were up by 6:30.
I've already made an extra large pot of coffee for myself. I can't get it into my system soon enough.
I think I am going to take the group to go see Ramona and Beezus today. I loved those books growing up.
Morning.
Firing a glaze kiln today. Going to make some pots and hopefully put a coat of poly on the table. And work on some other projects.
Because he makes me laugh, here is a pic of Jack from last night. I was knitting and he snuggled up next to me right on top of my balls of yarn. So I had to move them.
One of these days Gus is going to end up part of a project :-)
Mindi - love those!

You have no idea how accurate that statement actually is. A couple years ago I read in one of my knitting magazines about companies who spin dog hair into yarn. (Hey, they spin sheep, rabbit, llama, & goat hair, why not dog?)
He sheds a lot every spring, so I've been saving his brushings for a few years so I can have it spun. Just enough for a scarf. A whole sweater would likely be WAY too warm.
Yes, I'm sort of crazy. But the samples I've seen are really beautiful & soft yarn.

I love this. What a great pic.
Hi all - ended up going to the casino after all late yesterday. My grandma, who went on the casino trip, ended up losing track of time, which means she, my mom & and an aunt of mine missed the bus going back. Since it would've taken forever for my dad to get back to the car, go back and pick them up, and return, I got called upon to be the taxi service, which was a nice 4-hour trip all told
Headed out to try to take some pictures on the assignment mentioned on the Photo Finish thread - not terribly happy with the results (don't really care for my current digicam) but I guess practice makes perfect, right?
Fun: DD and I went hiking today at Indian Heights. This was a downhill, you can't really tell from the photo though, I don't think. Can you?
Not Fun: Seeing C today. Well, seeing him was alright but the following wasn't...
me: Hi sweetie
C: Hi baby.
-smootch smootch-
C: sniff ha-choo cough....I'm sick
Me:

Isn't it true that after a long run your immunity is compromised somewhat? fark.
For me, yes. But then I'm already compromised. Still, I'd make sure to get A LOT of sleep (for the next week) to help head off any potential yucks.
I got a lot of stuff done today! Coat of poly on the table. 3 coats of stain on a stand for a big bowl. Threw 14 bowls (12 are dessert bowls like this) and 2 salad/mixing bowl size, a tart plate, got slabs rolled out for a bottle, and..... darnit, there's more and I can't think right now.
