I don't know how fun this is going to be, but my interview in Cleveland is today. Any and all job vibes would be greatly appreciated.

Lena snuck into my bed last night then peed in her sleep.  *sigh*  I had to change the sheets at 1 AM.  And of course the featherbed was soaked.  I looked at the tag, "professional cleaning only."  Yeah, right.  I threw some water and laundry soap on there, swished it around, then sopped it up with a towel.  That's as professional as I was gonna get at that point.  It's hanging over the railing on my back deck right now.

Supposed to pour rain today but so far there's barely a cloud in the sky and it's really warm.

QOD-  What was the best job you ever had?  If you no longer have it, why did it end?

My best job is my current one, even considering the parts I dislike.  My next best one was probably my college jobs at the universities' libraries, which ended with graduation.  I worked security and circulation desk at my undergrad university, and in the shelving department at my grad university.  I strongly considered going for my MLS when I was looking at grad schools.

Best job is my current one... and it should be I had to go to school for 6 years to get it!!   I know you didn't ask, but the worst one was selling watches at a kiosk in the mall.  Bored does not begin to cover it!!

Sleep, glorious sleep.  The first time I woke up last night, I looked at the clock and realized that I had slept a whole four hours non-stop.  Four!  Yah!  That hardly ever happens!  The next time was after a 2 hour interval.  The remaining 2ish hours sucked, but I'm still stoked over the 4 hour mark. I guess that's my fun for the day.

Not fun;  got to the polls this AM only to realize that my driver's license wasn't where it is supposed to be.  WTF?  I'm thinking maybe it's in the back pocket of some shorts I wore on Saturday.  Hoping is more the correct term, actually.  Luckily I had my older DL in the car just for the odd emergency case, and the guy at the polls let me go ahead anyway.

QOD - probably my first job out of law school.  It was with a mid-sized firm, I really enjoyed the work and I would have had a great shot at making partner if I had stayed.  But, I left to pursue the job with the big, international law firm...

Ah well, I can't change that now.

colleen, i need to dry clean our feather bed as well. but i'm askeered to bring it to the cleaners to figure out how much it'll cost. maybe i'll just use your method! :)

qod: best job is also my current one. as much as i can complain and want to change a few things about it, overall, i have the best of both worlds by being in such a large practice in an academic setting.

speaking of work, this is my last week of full time work - yippee!! next week (and until i deliver), i begin working part time! although, the asterik is that in our business, part time is still 40 scheduled hours b/c full time is 50-65. regardless, it'll be reduced and i'm grateful for that!

Kath - good luck.  Last week you were asking about typical interview questions.  The one I posed was "why should we hire you"?  The reason I posed this is because I had a neighbor who told me he was asked that when interviewing for his current job.  His answer, which I think was brilliant, was "I don't know - if you are interviewing other people that are a better fit, or more qualified, then you should hire them",  When he got the job, he was told that his answer to that question sealed the deal, because he was honest, and did not lay on all of the BS they got from other candidates about hpw great they were.

Qod:  I would also have to go with my current job.  Sure, (like most of us) there are aspects that I don't agree with, but overall, it's a great place to work.  Good benefits, good staff, good bosses. 

Otherwise, my second choice, at least in the fun category, would be working as the hostess (my preppie name for attendant) at the 2001 video arcade in the mall.  I worked there though college, part and nearly full time.  Not only was I in an environment that I loved, I got to play free video games, and was the only chick that could hold her own against the guys in Street Fighter 2 and 3, Mortal Kombat, Hoop shot, Daytona, and Cybersled.  Ahh the days of playing games after work until 1:30 in the morning with co-workers!  Whee.

Here's a picture of me from this weekend after the race was over (and the RD left) trying to compile the official list of finishers and their times.  I attempted to sit up straight since I knew he was taking pictures, but then I got absorbed in what we were doing and lost my posture.

QOD: in terms of paying jobs, probably a temp job I had working for a local area office supply company.  Great atmosphere and people to work with, and they included me in their events and outings even as a temp.  Any thoughts of working there ended though when they got bought out by one of the bigger boys (Office Depot, I think?) and they no longer needed my services.

Worse job - tie between newspaper delivery (not that it was so bad, but it left me literally 8 hours for everything else because it was a second job to put extra cash into the wallet) and a cashier at my BiL's mall kiosk at Christmas (retail is NOT my thing, but I was thankful for it because I was in the midst of a seriously long period of unemployment)

QOD: The best (paying) job I've every had was the long-term sub position I just finished. I was doing what I loved and worked with great people. Plus, I was at the same school as my girls, so that made the mornings that much easier. And I got peak at them throughout the day!

The worst job I've ever had was right after college. I worked at a local phone company doing all sorts of officey stuff. My bosses were awful and most of the people I worked with were not that nice either. I was happy to get out of there!

I overslept this morning. Hopefully, I can get in a good 6 hours of work today. I just need to leave the house first...

QOD: Well, the one I have now is only part-time, but I like it. It's flexible and I get to pretty much figure out my own tasks for the day. My supervisor actually started back to running because of me. He is already injured. Doh.

Missy - I know I'm not Tonya, but we leave tomorrow morning.  Back on Monday.

QOD:  Easy.  Caddying.  Worked as much or as little as I wanted to.  Paid in cash.  Got to meet some interesting people on the course (private country club), learned a lot about dealing with people.  Learned a lot about golf.  Oh, and the extra benefit of that job leading to a free college education.

Second best was the high school in Eugene.

QOD:  Also put me in the "current job" column.  I have pretty much what Coach described as his first law firm.  Well respected mid-size law firm, and I am in a small office (35ish lawyers) with a great, friendly atmosphere.  It is not biglaw as far as pay is concerned, but I am certainly not complaining.  After that, best job was beverage cart girl at a golf course during under grad.  Admittedly I had to deal with some reeediculous remarks, but zipping around outside was awesome.

QOD:  I don't think I've ever had a job that I loved or hated.  I've been just okay with my jobs. I like the job I have now I guess, and I liked the ones I've had in the past. Sadly, they've all just been jobs to make a living.  Nothing I've been passionate about.  If I was pressed for an answer I'd say a job I had when I was in college at The Scarlet Pumpernickel - Deli, Bakery and Coffeehouse. This was before Starbucks was on every street corner, coffeehouses were unique back then. omigod that makes me sound so old.  The owner was a total hippie, we baked our own bread, there was a sign that said "NO, we will NOT turn down the music" and I got to eat there for free and the food was really good, so that was good.  I think that I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.
