Hey all,
Good to see people getting out there. I'm lagging behind again after sleeping in yet another Saturday. Yeah, I know, lazy. But that will be ending soon. The road to New York City beckons in just 2 weeks, so I'm enjoying the last bit of "vacation" from marathon training.
Odd 5k race last night. I had worked long hours at the office the past two days, not slept well and it was 90 + humid even at 7pm. On top of it all I was late getting there and had no time to warmup other than a quick jog over to registration to grab my bib, chip & t-shirt. By this time I was already feeling rather unmotivated about the whole thing. I took the stuff back to my car, quickly pinned the number on and put the d-tag on the shoe, figuring I had just enough time to back to the start. Um, not exactly. As I'm running back I hear the start horn go off. Great. Oh well. I touched the start pad and took off anyway, passed a few hundred people. Mentally I just wasn't into it, though, and was pretty much cruising along at a tempo pace. On the way back from the turnaround, I was all alone, nobody close behind and the next person way too far ahead to catch. So I just continued at my pace, crossed the line barely even tired. 22::44 gun time, 20:49 chip time -- PW for the year and slowest 5k in probably 3 years.
After such a lackluster performance you can imagine my surprise to find out I came in 7th overall and won my age group. The funny thing is I didn't even stick around for awards - one of our soccer teammates was having a party at her house and I headed to that for a little while. I only found out about the results after checking online later.
Not sure what I'm doing today. I left it open to either a long run or ride. Watching Tour de France replay right now so maybe that will inspire me in that direction.
