Triathlon Silver for Whitfield!

Congratulations to Simon Whitfield for his second Olympic medal! It was an incredible race - one that Whitfield must have lost several times, bouncing back each time, and making a strong move at the end! Well done! We're proud of you!

Awesome race for the two of the them. The comebacks by Whitfield in the 10 k were true warrior moves. Bravo. Also nice to see that the selection committee was strategic in selecting Jenkins and it worked!!! How un-Canadian. Now if they would just let Olympic standard qualified Canadian runners run in the Marathon. I looked at the 100 person start line for the marathon and all I could think was: there is room for a couple of Canadians.

Yeah I don't get their thinking for the marathon. They send plenty of non-contenders in a bunch of other sports.

They seem to want proof that you can finish top-12 before they send you anywhere. How can you prove yourself if you can't go to any top competitions? It's a bit absurd that we can send sailors and shooters and everyone else who can finish in 50th place, and we can't spring for two marathoners who both meet the IAAF A-standard.

Seems like there is no love lost between Whitfield and the other Canadian in the tri. Said it was okay that he didn't buy into the Canadian Team concept, but that his prep. wasn't consistent with his desire to compete for a medal. Basically called him a tourist in Beijing. Ouch!!!

It was an odd dynamic. But, as Whitfield said - they pursue triathlon for different reasons. Tichelaar took a leave of absence this year to pursue the Olympics, while Whitfield has been a full-time pro for almost a decade now. He didn't seem that put off by the whole thing (Whitfield, I mean), he basically said that they were chasing different things, and that's cool.
