I wore Seirus Stormsocks this winter and my feet were nice and warm even on the coldest of days. I usually wear two pairs of socks anyway, so these would often become a third layer and kept my feet dry and warm.

I feel like a big loser...I wear some wicking Starter socks from Wal-mart. I guess they work for me though and that's better than following what all the cool people do. wink.gif

When it's real cold and I'm gonna be getting wet I wear Stormsocks. They're like wet suit material...pretty cool.

i've worn Kmart socks, so i am assuming WalMart ones are similar. I find for shorter distances, it does not really matter what sock i have (on non-trail running) as long as it is wicking/drifit.

I must not run enough and/or have low maintenance feet. I run in whatever cotton socks I pull out of the drawer. I use hospital tape over potential blister spots on long runs. I feel like a sock luddite.

I love nice cushy running socks.

Meri, those ones you sent me for secret santa are some of my favorites!

I've thrown out all my cotton socks. I can't do it anymore.

I ran in Smartwool socks for a year or so and just switched to Balega socks which I love.

For longer runs and trail running I was wearing Smartwool but was having some issues. I switched to Belaga and have had no problems.

I went on a mission to find good new socks after my last marathon. I bought one pair of a bunch of different kinds. I ended up with two favorites. Thorlo mini-cushion and Balega Xterra. Other Balegas were too thin. I did find that it took me a while to get used to the thickness of the Thorlos. Especially in the summer heat, but now I love them!!

Okay, to be serious now, Balegas and Injinjis are the two brands I really love. I like the Wrights for rainy/wet road days.

I'm a huge smartwool fan. I may check out some of these other brands though.

I have different socks for different runs. I only have one pair of balegas ($$$!) so that is my LR sock! Love 'em! I have some other thinner (ish) socks from C9 (free from the Twin Cities 10 miler last year!) that I use for shorter runs. I also have some Kalenji socks I got at Decathlon in France. LOVE them!! Can't wait to get some more of those next year.

not picky about brand at all. I read the contents on the back to make sure there is just a little cotton. I prefer thin socks, quarter length which have been impossible to find and hand to go with low or no shows. which even smalls sizes the heel is coming up out of my shoe. that I hate.

can someone tell me the idea behind these new fangled toe socks??????????

Well, for one thing, they are very good for preventing blisters between toes. And for me, I find the size small fits my feet perfectly, no bunching, no weird seams, no heel riding up my heel... super comfortable.

I have been using them on longer runs with a very thin "whatever, I bought it at target" sock over it, and this seems to work very well for me so far.

Toe socks seemed weird to me at first, but I didn't have any bunching at all, which seems to be the cause of most of the blisters I get. Plus they're thin, and the smartwools I have a just a bit too thick and I get blisters on my toes and ball of my foot just behind my toes when I wear them on longer runs.

I have my 5 mile and under socks (smartwools), my 6 mile + socks (some free thin socks or my wright socks) and then my LR socks = injinji toe socks plus a pair of thin socks overtop, like altoids. They work for me, and the size is just right. I wear the medium.

sock or not to sock

Do injinji socks always require another pair of socks over them? It seems to be a common statement in this thread. Where can I find the injinji's, smartwool, bagegas, and thorolo? I plan on visiting REI today. See I am a guy I don't shop, I visitbiggrin.gif

I don't know if REI has them, but you should be able to check online and then call if necessary to limit in-store time. Injinji's do not require another pair of socks, but they don't have any padding really, so I find it more comfortable to have another thin pair over top.

Smartwool and Thorlo are most everywhere nowadays is seems. I don't know about the others.

I bought several pairs of Smartwool running socks at Sierratradingpost.com and they were cheap compared to retail. (I think they are about $14 retail/pr) I've also purchased a few pairs from my local LL Bean outlet for about 1/2 of the retail price.

I buy my Balegas from my local running store and they are about $10/pr.

Me too.

I got some Danskin wicking ones at Walmart and they are some of my favorites. Nice and cushy...

I tried some thin socks this past Saturday to see if it would help my toe issue. It did for a while... I ran longer without the pain, but still got it. I'm going to try a thicker pair of socks with a bigger shoe this week to see how that goes.

My road running shoes are sized the same as my bike shoes, so I wear my Sock Guy bike socks with them. They seem to work fine. My trail shoes are sized for a thicker sock, so I wear the thickest Thorlos with them.
