Default RR - Turkey Trot 5K

My last straight running race was October of '07 and the lack of 08's on my race log was really bugging me. So I ponied up the $2 to participate in the local running club's Turkey Trot 5K. I figured there would be about 20 runners...they got their largest T-Trot turnout ever at 200+, wow!

No mile markers, so...

Somewhere around 1 mile - Yep, working up a good sweat. Breathing hard, but well in control. Saw a couple kids ahead of me and told them (in my head) the race is long yet, you're going down.

Mile 2-ish - Oh yeah, now I'm feeling it. Boy these 5k's hurt. Passed the two kids, though. New target = the wannabe girl with the soft legs and the tight track shorts. Surely she doesn't deserve to beat me.

Mile 2.5 - Got the track girl, time to hammer it home. Flat and straight for the last portion. I had to remind myself here that I do this for fun and if this was a training run I'd be thoroughly enjoying the pain. Surprisingly, it worked and I immediately regained control of my breathing and pounded in to the finish line.

Result - 22:04. That's a full minute off my PR (as in, a minute slower), but I figured I'd be good for about 22 minutes, so it's nice to see I'm still in touch with my fitness level. I think I'd like to do a 10k sometime in the near future, these things are pretty fun when you don't have to worry about the swim and bike - so clean and simple!

And, since I know Boyle hates it when people say "sorry, no camera today" here's a picture of me hunched over the laptop typing this stupid report.

Gotta love that photo!

Pretty speedy Mr. Bannon. Oh, and if you get a chance, could you send me your directions for your sturdy sipaway? Mine totally sucks.

Less run mileage than most years and you still net a hefty PR. Nice!

But why are turkeys trotting so early up there?

And, dude, you've really gotta make yourself a more ergo workstation. Especially now that you have a new appreciation for how sitting strangely can make body parts squawk.

Oops, No. No PR. I was a minute off my PR, not "I took a minute off."

Woops. Still, plenty fast from where I sit -- in a nicely ergo chair.

yeah wassup with that chair man?? that's not ergo and if you spend as much time as I think you spend - no wonder your knees are talkative!

that's a very knee-unfriendly chair!

oh yeah, and great run etc etc etc

Sounds like a good start back.......
But, gotta agree with the lack of ergo-ness in the photo.

It's not great for knees, NOR for your back. oof!

Sure this wasn't a Halloween haul? It's still a couple of weeks to Thanksgiving around here - different time zone maybe?

Anyway, way to beat up on the kids.

Cool report, Bannon. I can't see the butt very well, but cute feet!

And way to reel in those youngsters. You're right, too, about 5K's... they hurt! But you know what? You coming off of Half Iron training, the pain only last for such a short time... you only have to hold on for a fraction of the holding on required of the half Iron run. And so it's over before you even know it.

After my last 5K, I nearly hurled. I was hunched over trying to catch my breath... for, like, 5 minutes.

Nice job, MBannon. And $2! Bargain price as well. Nice for the fiscally conservative! They must have been pleased at the turnout...

We're stingy with the heat. You cold? Go for a run, dammit.

Turkey trot already? I thought the ones around here started up this coming weekend.

Nice solid run but you got something a bit backwards here:

It's the racing that's supposed to hurt. Training...not so much. Still, very solid. Think I can talk you into a few more holiday standalone races?

$2 race? that's sweet. Wait, was it discounted because it was left over from LAST Thanksgiving?

congrats on busting out a fine fast 5K.

Congrats Bannon. Sorry about the reverse PR, or whatever, but a fast race, nonetheless. and for $2, what a bargain!

Good job! Several more Turkey trots coming up in our neighborhood. I might do 2 trots on Thanksgiving weekend. I wish they were cheap like yours!

Nice race! You still have some decent speed for not having trained like you have in the past. That bodes well for when you get to train the way you know you can. It does seem early for a Turkey Trot though.

Good race to fill your '08 log!
Next time your knees talk to you, listen carefully, they might be saying something about your desk too.
And Turkey Trots now? I guess in a week you'll start doing the Jingle Bell runs.
