I'm going to give it a go tomorrow AM at Bear Mountain to see if I can figure out some of the course (and see how "challenging" it will be). The last crew that went out there had an interesting go at it. I will post a report with a GPS map and pictures on my blog tomorrow afternoon.

I just ran/hiked the first 25 or so of the 50M from Bear Mountain to Tuxedo today with a friend. After running the Bel Monte 50M last weekend, I can say with little doubt that TNF race is much more difficult. I found 2 sections totaling maybe 4 miles that might be deemed easy--the run along the Palisades shoulder and the first section of the TMI. Otherwise, it's mostly up and down, rocky, and winding.

Oh, make sure to check yourself for ticks while out there/ afterward. Or maybe I'm just a frickin' tick magnet.

Wow. I first ran the AT up to the top of the mountain to Perkins Tower. What great views. Then I think I ran the last 3 or 4 miles of the course in reverse (and then back again). Quite rocky, hilly...a few mini stream crossings. Interesting. I've got a bunch of pictures I'll put up in a few.

Updated : Ah...I ended up running the first 2 miles or so of the start/finish. I missed the ski double track, and did not turn left on Y (S-BM), but ended up running portions of the Anthony Wayne to Finish section in reverse (and the nback to the finish).

Pictures about to hit the blog.

When we ran up to Perkins (once we abandoned our attempt at running the actual race course), it was pouring. I couldn't see a thing

I think I'll spend more time climbing hand over fist than I will running

First of all, Brennen --congrats on Bel Monte 50 --impressive time, given your knee injury (maybe the rest helped, as it often does) --hope you had a good trip --those 25 miles that you ran and the miles Anthony ran sound pretty tough. Stacy, I signed up for the 50K as
am intrigued by those trails --not sure how much of it I will do -but would love to start with you and hang with you! --however, with Umstead next weekend , I may not be able to walk on April 12 so figure I can drop down to the half or 10K (it's practically the same price -haha).
Stacy, you will do just fine!!!!!!! Can't believe it's in 2 weeks. Your Caumsett 50K was perfect endurance training for this one. But those trail sound tough -I figure this wll make me get there and check out the trail system.

Emmi - it's a date! I would be honored to run with a top athlete such as yourself

Stacy --on trails I try and go as slowwwwly as possible and I love taking my time, and love coming in in the back of the pack -it's more fun.. I just started with trails last year (Nipmuck marathon in June and greenbelt 50K in may -2 that are fairly tame) I am terrified of crashing down and injuring myself..I took a bad fall in the VT 50 (tripped on a root at mile 40) but that toughened me up (Frank was running behind me and he saw me go flying). In the fingerlakes 50s also took a fall --so did Merigayle. I tend to tip toe around streams and rocks but am getting better at picking up my feet and going over rocks!! I am excited for you as it will be new and different accomplishment.

I hear you, up till now the trails I've run on have been very well groomed. But it will be fun, regardless
