Default Slightly late to the party

Just got back from a week in Scotland, and haven't even scratched the surface of everything that went on around here. We did participate in the Thor Stag Run and festivities.

I put a quick 2 miles in snow flurries early in the morning, then later that night we hit a pub to toast Ironboy.

The gatekeeper wouldn't let us in until he got a picture:

Then Michele and I wanted in:

Finally the cold ones were present:

Of course, after the beers were gone someone had to get them back to the room:

A trip to the Highlands is not complete without 1) Searching for Nessie:

or 2) Fish and Chips:

But alas, at some point all trips must end.

Safety first

Exactly the picture I was trying for. As soon as Michele mentioned taking more pictures of the picture in different spots, those commercials popped in my head.

Oh. My. God.

der Kaiser, that travelogue was AWESOME... I'm still smiling at it. Honestly, I feel as if I were there...

A big thanks for tending to the Gatekeeper.
A big thanks for letting michele in on our party... see it was a bachelor party for all fools and better halfs.
A big thanks for the Red Ales... they looked good!
A big thanks to both you and Michele, a mighty fine looking couple I might add, because your smiles told me all I needed to know -- that you guys had a freak'n BLAST!
A big thanks for playing tourist in the land of Scots, yes, including fish and chips!
A big thanks for making sure we traveled well and safe and remained buckled in.

And last but not least, a BIG THANKS to both you and Michele, because the pictures show exactly what I would have wanted, and that is that you smiled, had a great time, and laughed over a few beers while seeing the sights and also logging a few healthy miles.

der Kaiser, that was special, and funny... thank you!

And wait until the Ironmate hears about her little adventure!

Now, it wasn't always fun and games up there. Sometimes there were lines to wait in (queuing for those in country). But that is not too bad if you you are comfy during the wait:

Also, we spent a fair bit of time at the pool, a little too dnagerous for the whole group, as lamination was not available.

That's cool. After having so much fun together -- all of us -- we needed a little "alone" time to 'reaquaint' with each other. And we were okay with being a part because we knew you'd like some too!

And by the way, I LOVE McEwan's! In fact, years ago when I used to hook up with my old brother for our weekend beer sampling fests, we got hooked on it so much that we decided to find a pub nearby who had it on tap. We searched all throughout the area, as we were on a fact finding mission otherwise know as a pub crawl, and just as we were all bleary-eyed and nearly done with our unsuccessful journey -- unsuccessful in the big McEwan's picture sense -- we stumbled into a pub in Davis Square just on the edge of walking distance that had what we sought.

The pub we were in had two types of McEwan's on tap. It is tough life up there for a beer drinker, no doubt.

Obviously the "both" refers to mine and Thor's better halves.

Thor thought he was squared away to start training full time as he was certain he had spotted the Loch Ness Monster and would get rich endorsing his pictures. But alas he was proved a fake at the last minute.

Excellent adventure!

I did this once with a stuffed alien I kidnapped from someone and took to Ireland.

Of course, in addition to fish and chips, there are other must-do activities in the Scottish Highlands. Haggis must be eaten:

And if you are on the coastal route between Aberdeen and Inverness, you must try to find dolphins. We saw a few seals but no dolphins, even though we all tried to work together:

I think our main problem was that we could only get so close to the water with the team:

Ok, that about does it for our version of Ironboy Stag Run.

Swimming with the dolphins...

Dude, I'm still smiling. Thank you. That was truly awesome!!!

And speaking of Haggis, I had a can of something at my old house before tossing to the garbage monster. It was a very funny can. It contained sponge cake, honey and raisins, if I remember correctly. It was either British or Scottish. And it was called... Spotted Dick. Really. The can was too cool to even attempt to taste what was inside. So I have no idea if it was good.
