I know this has been asked ad nauseum, but I'm curious. How long do your shoes usually last (mileage wise)? Mine don't seem to do very well past about 200 miles. I realize that I'm not graceful and I'm sure my form is terrible. Does my size affect it? I'm 5'7 and about 142 or so, which I think is about average. I wear cushioned shoes if that matters.
What kind of mileage do you get?

I'm 5'9" and 165-168 pounds. I generally get between 550 and 700 miles per pair of shoes. I've been running in ASICS 2120s and their predecessors.
I don't have any experience with cushioned shoes, but have heard that they typically don't last as long. This is purely anecdotal, however.

300, almost to a T! :( I wear Brooks trance and Brooks Cascadias. I have heard Brooks wear out pretty fast compared to other brands.

I follow the 300 mile rule and retire the shoe when I reach that mileage. I'm sure that I could get more miles out of the shoe, but while I've been following the rule, I haven't had any major leg problems. I'm 6', 170 lbs, do about 50 miles a week, and run in the asics 2100 series for normal runs and brook st2's for speed work.

I get about 600 or so out of my Mizuno Wave Riders. I just replaced my last pair at 650 more so because the uppers were ripping up. I'm 6' and 145 lbs and pretty neutral. About shoes that is. Not so neutral on everything else.

350 to 400 miles out of my Mizuno Wave Rider 10s.
I get fewer miles out of my trail shoes.

Road - 325-350 (Brooks Adrenaline)
Trail - 500+ (Usually one season)
I change trail shoes from year to year, but on roads I've been loyal. Now on 18th pair of the Brooks. :)

I wear ASICS Kayanos on the roads and generally get 350 miles per pair. I wear various trail shoes and think I get a little less per pair on trail.
I'm 6'2" and weigh 185.

I've settled on Asics, and have been wearing the 2110s , but I tried on some 2120s a month ago and didn't really like the feel at my achilles for some reason, they just felt different and not in a good way. I get about 400 miles on the 2110s before I feel any problems cropping up. Usually manifests as shin splints when it's time to change shoes.
I had the Kayanos recommended to me at a recent shoe fitting/analysis so I might try those next.
I'm 5'9" ~146lbs

I don't have a clue.
Last year when most of my races were on the road, I chucked my road shoes every 3-4 marathons which worked out to about every 6 weeks. Most of my "training mileage" is high angle TM walking of which I put in 30-40 per week.
For trail shoes I chuck them when I can't stand to look at them anymore. That probably comes out to 150-200 miles raced in them (again, 3-4 races) and probably about an equal amount of training miles.

I am 200#
I use Asics 1100s (I buy'em in bulk when they are on sale)
I get 700+ miles out of a pair
I usually could get more miles, but the oder becomes the determining factor
I have went through 6 pair (4 still in service) in the last 11 months = 4,281 miles - 2 are becoming ripe, so it is about time to take 2 ponies out and add 2 new ponies.

Interesting. My shoes don't get stinky. I wonder why that is. And I'm not making the claim as if I were saying "My shit don't stink" but really, they don't develop a bad odor. None of them, except the rubbery Teva's. Those things get awful, I think that's because I don't wear socks with 'em.

It's the first pair that I've noticed any stank from. Might have something to do with the canal path I run on frequently. It is covered with goose shzt and when it rains it is covered with puddles of water with wet goose shzt. Hmmm...

My stank has to do with on any faster long run - I sweat through my shoes (Leave sweat footprints on the roads) This is why I rotate 4 pair at a time - If you let you shoes fully dry out before you use them again you get more life out of them.
I haven't been getting nearly as much out of my shoes as I've been hoping but I think the lightweightness had to do something with it. My Speedstars lasted me about 300-some, and my Haywards have like 260 right now, but I think my legs hurt on them more because they aren't the correct shoe for me.
I'm hoping my Asics Stratus's last a lot longer, like 500 or so, like my Cumulus's did last year.

I get around 300-400 out of a pair. When I was wearing New Balance I could get about 400, but with the Asics I have been wearing lately it's more like 300. I am running in my first pair of Mizunos right now and they are still holding strong near 200.
I don't automatically chuck my shoes at a certain mileage. Usually what happens is I start noticing aches in my feet, blisters I wasn't previously getting, etc. Those are usually my indicators that my mileage is getting up there on my shoes and it's time to change them.

I start thinking about getting new ones at 300 miles. Since I alternate shoes, I'll get new ones and wear the old ones occassionally until I get close to 400. Both pairs are getting up there now. 331 and 294. Looks like I need two pairs. When I got hurt I started back with 2 new pairs. Usually there's more of a difference between the two pairs. My racing/fast trainers have 182 miles on them. I usually replace them by 250 since they aren't as durable.

6'1 ~150 here
I get about 500-550 out of most of my shoes, sometimes closer to 600. I wear Mizuno Wave Riders, Asics GEL Landreths (Landreths are usually on the lower end of the spectrum), and Asics GEL Cumulus.
I'm 6'2" 205# and wear either Brooks Adrenaline or Asics Kayano - I rotate 'em and usually wear my Brooks on long runs (they're a bit lighter).
I get ~275 miles from either brand - then I notice my knees tend to get a tad sore. Since I have a history of bumb knees, I don't give it a chance to manifest itself into anything more serious. Would love to get more miles and save some $cake$, but I prefer running on healthy knees.
Good info out there - thanks.

I get a new pair well past the 300 mile mark, but that's because my husband cringes when he sees how much they have cost me. I wear Brooks Glycerins and can feel how much they are worn by how my legs feel. My legs were wrecked for weeks before I finally broke down and bought a new pair. They were very close to 400 miles. Maybe 375 miles. Not very smart...but oh well...

Brooks Adrenelines seem to work best for me, both trail & road models. I get around 350 miles on a pair before the knees start complaining. I also like Saucony Grid Omni for trail as well and just got a pair of Hardrocks which I'm using on more technical trails.
I used to use Aasic's 2080's (which were good) but the 2090-2100 on up, went to hell as far as I'm concerned. 5'9" 155 lbs. I also make a point out of trying to run a few miles barefoot every week also.

i tried a pair of 2120s in january... they felt too hard. my ankle and hip gave me troubles. now the 2120s are still sitting in the box, after just 35 miles. i just bought 4 pairs of 2110s off the web, and two weekends ago i did a 17 miler on a new pair fresh out of the box, no troubles. somebody designed that model for me:-)

I am 6'2" and down to 197 (+ - a few). I've noticed that I have started getting more mileage out of my shoes after:
1. getting lighter (I was 250+ when I started running)
2. getting faster (less footsteps per mile)
3. getting shoes that fit me better.
I was using Reebok Road Premier something or other, then Asics 2010 (iirc). Both of them felt fine, but between 200-250 I developed severe foot pain rather suddenly and it went away with new shoes.
Tried a different running store and they pointed out how my wide feet roll over the edge of the sole when running and found the Brooks Adrenaline for me. Over 300 before I started to feel my legs more than usual. I had a foot evaluation and they recommended the Brooks Addiction for more durability. The running store said the Beast were in between the Addiction and the Adrenaline so I tried them. I can't wait for them to wear out, because they feel heavy and have never felt right. No pain, but they don't feel right. Also, I've started to feel some Achilles (I think) tightness when I run with them. I think I'll stick with the Adrenalines and hope the new ones (seven?) are not much different from the ones I have had so far (SIX).
Short answer to the survey question, I'm happy if I get 300+ out of a pair.

That's not necessarily good. Optimally, you should be doing about 180 bpm when running - at least that's what Jack Daniels says. The slower your stride rate, the more time you're spending in the air, the harder the impact when you come down, etc.

Well, it seems my stride rate hasn't changed much and is right around 180 or so. It seems like my stride is getting me further since it feels like my pace is more efficient and smoother. But who knows, I'm still very new at this (running for only 2 years).

Funny as I've heard people complain about 7 after being happy with everything before then. I am nervous as I have loved my 6's and tried Beast's but am not happy with them and may retire them early as I am developing a pain at the back of my ankle, but only when I run with the Beast. They are at about 190 now, my newest Adrenaline GTS-6's are still under 100 and I just retired another pair of Adrenaline's at about 330 or so.

I wore my 1977 Nike waffles around the Hayward Field track for a warm up before the inaugural Eugene Marathon in April and took my blue Brooks Vantage from 1980 to the Capital City Marathon in May.
However, I ran both races barefoot as I haven't purchased a pair of running shoes since 1999 and, counting the waffles and vantage, have only needed six running shoes in thirty years and nearly 100 marathons.
If I need shoes on rough chipseal, etc. pavements or rocky trails, I wear thongs, aquasocks or other thin-soled footwear recommended to avoid twisting ankles and exacerbating an old knee injury from 1990 that got me running barefoot in the first place to strengthen foot, ankle, knee and calf muscles.

I run in Saucony Triumphs. I am on about pairs #15 and 16 now. Before that I ran in Saucony Shadows. All of them have been good for about 500 to 600 miles per pair, although I will use older ones if I am on a soft track or treadmill. (I have a TM with a flex deck.) Lately I've been thinking about finding something lighter for races, but still want to stay with cushion shoes. Triumphs are fairly heavy at around 11 oz.

Asics 20x0 and 21x0 series with usually 600 to 700 miles per pair, though the recent 2120s I have/will cut the mileage shorter as they appear to be "losing it" a bit sooner. My knee (very out of the ordinary) is feeling it a bit as well. I've heard the 2130s are better - here's hopin'.

300 on Trail shoes, 400 on Road shoes. I kind of run only on the outside of my feet and wear them into the midsole by that point, other parts of the sole are like new. By 300 the trail shoes are pretty torn up. My Sportiva and Inov-8 grippy trail soles wear out real fast on pavement. I've gotten 400+ from New Balance and I'm working on some Saucony Trigons. My history with shoes is brief though, would love one of those 700 mile pairs but I'm sure my stride is too wacky for that.

I get:
400 out of Adidas Cairos (no longer made)
400 out of Adidas trail shoes
350 out of Asics Evolutions (I'll never buy them again...not enough miles)
25 miles out of NB 580 (not a typo...)
650 miles out of Mizuno Renegades
900 miles out of Asics Gel MC+
I determine mileage solely based on knee or foot pain. I haven't ever had major knee trouble, and don't want to start now. So as soon as my knees get sore, I chuck the shoes. I have had a bout of serious PF in both feet some 6 years ago when running on a pair of shoes that had too many miles. As soon as I feel some grumpiness in my PF, I chuck the shoes. Works like a charm. So far, I've latched onto the renegades and MC+s because they last longer. The evolutions were a total disappoinment due to the longevity issue. The NB580's were just terrible shoes, something about the way the shoe was made caused the footstrike to be very jarring. Immediate sharp knee pain. Tried for a couple weeks then just tossed em.

Some recent experiences:
- Asics GT 2100 - 550 miles
- NB 766 - 560 miles, still felt great, but retired them anyway
- Brooks Adrenaline 6 - 490, but should have retired at 425, ended up with foot injury
- Asics Gel Kayano 12 - 425, still going, but will probably retire these at around 460
- Brooks Trance 7 - 105, no signs of deterioration at this point
I am very heavy (230), but do not punish shoes, all of these heels have held up great, forefoot cushioning is the deciding factor on retirement. I rotate at least 2 pairs, this seems to lengthen their mileage.

Bought another identical pair. I had worn through about 1/2" of the rubber sole completely, on the outside midfoot area. Just my crappy footstrike, shoes were great. If I could run better I'd get another 100 miles for sure, really pisses me off to waste money.
