Yo, Pep, I don't think they're gonna play this on the radio
And why not? Everybody has socks....
So what socks do you have that you love?
I just bought a pair since they were on sale at www.campmor.com and I like them. They are Wrightsock double-layer coolmesh quarter socks. And they came in grey, and in women's small, so they aren't too big, like most socks are. No bunching up! Very comfortable.

I want to buy some Injinji socks, but I haven't been able to bring myself to spend that much on a pair of socks yet.
Tell me about your socks.

I have the same socks, they were given away at a trail race. They're awesome for trail running. My feet stayed warm even though they were soaking wet.

All my socks are worn out. Now that I am starting to actually run again, I probably need some new ones. Maybe I will give these a shot when the time comes that I am actually running more than 30 min at a time! :colors:

I buy them from www.zombierunner.com
Actually, i buy about 95% of my running related things from them :)
I've been having a great time in Wrightsocks with Smartwool over them lately. I had a problem with my first pair of Wright Socks, and they comp'd me 4 replacement pairs (via Fed EX). Great customer service!!!

For my last muddy trail race I used a pair of injinjis with a pair of sealskinz over them. The result worked pretty well, although some moisture did make it through, particularly when I went through knee deep mud/slush/water puddles.
But fifty bucks worth of socks on my feet? It seemed a little excessive.

I'm a fan of Wrightsocks. After a reccomend from the local shoe guy, I've been wearing them for several years now. Rare is the blister. Love 'em.
With trail shoes, I also use Damn Tough. (I couldn't find a photo.)

I like Wright Socks in the Summer, SmartWool in the winter. Ahhh. I LOVE SmartWool. I keep buying more, I'm going to go broke buying good socks. :)
I recently splurged on a Smartwool midweight jersey. . .talk about comfort!! If I had the $$ I would buy enough to wear every day. Wicks great, keeps you warm, and doesn't stink!!!!

Wright Socks are my favorites.

Hm. I generally wear Smartwools but some of those work better than others. I have one pair of Wright socks that actually give me blisters, on short runs no less, and one pair that work fine, so I guess it just depends.
I've got a pair of the regular Injinji (based on Meri's recommendation) and I like 'em, although my toes aren't as long as the toes of the socks. I have to fiddle with the sock combo to get enough cushion for the ball of my foot though.
I'm thinking I may splurge on the Nuwool Injinji's. . .could be the best of both worlds. The cotton/lycra injinji's just don't wick well enough for me. Smartwools are by far the best wicking IMO.
I'm avoiding my Wrightsocks on road runs over 10 miles and ALL trail runs. At Umstead, I saw a lot of folks having problems with dirt buildup b/w the double layers, causing friction.

I have been noticing problems with my Wrightsocks in dry, dusty conditions. I will need an alternate sock plan.

wool injinji is cool, although I didn't know they made wool ones until meri mentioned it at Umstead.
Now that you mention it, I did get my blisters with the one pair of wright socks when I was running on a dirt road in dusty conditions. But it was also where the seam at the toe sits, so I figured it was from the seam. I might try that pair again. I haven't worn them except that one time.
yeah, i've been overall disapointed with the wright sox. when i tried my first pair, they kept bunching/chafing, so i wrote to them and they sent me like four replacement pair! the replacements didn't bunch up, but if the trails get in the least bit dirty, the socks seem to love to trap dirt around the toe seam.

I got some low cut Sock Guy socks with a gift certificate I got from a race and I like them a lot. I just bought some of these recently for DH and he really likes them too (also Sock Guy socks):

The wright socks in combination with the injinji seem to work OK, though. I've not heard of Sock Guy socks, Shadow. I'm going to check into them now :)

I am totally sold on Thorlos. I have at least 20 pair of them. Most of which are well over five years old, and still look as good as new. I like them because of there thickness, which is good for padding and the cooler/colder weather.
I am so attached to them, that they are the first socks folded after they come out of the laundry, and they have there own special drawer...and the Mrs knows they are the only socks she can't wear.

I bought a pair of Thorlos, very cushy! but I think I need to go up a half size in running shoe for them to be perfectly comfortable.
Right now I've been appreciating injinji socks (the lavendar nuwool ones) topped with a cheap liner sock.

i like thorlos for the winter, my feet sweat too much in the summer. They are nice and thick and cushy though!

I wore Seirus Stormsocks this winter and my feet were nice and warm even on the coldest of days. I usually wear two pairs of socks anyway, so these would often become a third layer and kept my feet dry and warm.
I feel like a big loser...I wear some wicking Starter socks from Wal-mart. I guess they work for me though and that's better than following what all the cool people do. ;)
When it's real cold and I'm gonna be getting wet I wear Stormsocks. They're like wet suit material...pretty cool.

i've worn Kmart socks, so i am assuming WalMart ones are similar. I find for shorter distances, it does not really matter what sock i have (on non-trail running) as long as it is wicking/drifit.

I must not run enough and/or have low maintenance feet. I run in whatever cotton socks I pull out of the drawer. I use hospital tape over potential blister spots on long runs. I feel like a sock luddite.

I love nice cushy running socks.
Meri, those ones you sent me for secret santa are some of my favorites!
I've thrown out all my cotton socks. I can't do it anymore.
I ran in Smartwool socks for a year or so and just switched to Balega socks which I love.

For longer runs and trail running I was wearing Smartwool but was having some issues. I switched to Belaga and have had no problems.

I went on a mission to find good new socks after my last marathon. I bought one pair of a bunch of different kinds. I ended up with two favorites. Thorlo mini-cushion and Balega Xterra. Other Balegas were too thin. I did find that it took me a while to get used to the thickness of the Thorlos. Especially in the summer heat, but now I love them!!

And the bad things that may be
Okay, to be serious now, Balegas and Injinjis are the two brands I really love. I like the Wrights for rainy/wet road days.
I'm a huge smartwool fan. I may check out some of these other brands though.

I have different socks for different runs. I only have one pair of balegas ($$$!) so that is my LR sock! Love 'em! I have some other thinner (ish) socks from C9 (free from the Twin Cities 10 miler last year!) that I use for shorter runs. I also have some Kalenji socks I got at Decathlon in France. LOVE them!! Can't wait to get some more of those next year.

not picky about brand at all. I read the contents on the back to make sure there is just a little cotton. I prefer thin socks, quarter length which have been impossible to find and hand to go with low or no shows. which even smalls sizes the heel is coming up out of my shoe. that I hate.
can someone tell me the idea behind these new fangled toe socks??????????

Well, for one thing, they are very good for preventing blisters between toes. And for me, I find the size small fits my feet perfectly, no bunching, no weird seams, no heel riding up my heel... super comfortable.
I have been using them on longer runs with a very thin "whatever, I bought it at target" sock over it, and this seems to work very well for me so far.

Toe socks seemed weird to me at first, but I didn't have any bunching at all, which seems to be the cause of most of the blisters I get. Plus they're thin, and the smartwools I have a just a bit too thick and I get blisters on my toes and ball of my foot just behind my toes when I wear them on longer runs.
I have my 5 mile and under socks (smartwools), my 6 mile + socks (some free thin socks or my wright socks) and then my LR socks = injinji toe socks plus a pair of thin socks overtop, like altoids. They work for me, and the size is just right. I wear the medium.

Do injinji socks always require another pair of socks over them? It seems to be a common statement in this thread. Where can I find the injinji's, smartwool, bagegas, and thorolo? I plan on visiting REI today. See I am a guy I don't shop, I visit:-D

I don't know if REI has them, but you should be able to check online and then call if necessary to limit in-store time. Injinji's do not require another pair of socks, but they don't have any padding really, so I find it more comfortable to have another thin pair over top.
Smartwool and Thorlo are most everywhere nowadays is seems. I don't know about the others.
I bought several pairs of Smartwool running socks at Sierratradingpost.com and they were cheap compared to retail. (I think they are about $14 retail/pr) I've also purchased a few pairs from my local LL Bean outlet for about 1/2 of the retail price.
I buy my Balegas from my local running store and they are about $10/pr.

Me too.
I got some Danskin wicking ones at Walmart and they are some of my favorites. Nice and cushy...
I tried some thin socks this past Saturday to see if it would help my toe issue. It did for a while... I ran longer without the pain, but still got it. I'm going to try a thicker pair of socks with a bigger shoe this week to see how that goes.

My road running shoes are sized the same as my bike shoes, so I wear my Sock Guy bike socks with them. They seem to work fine. My trail shoes are sized for a thicker sock, so I wear the thickest Thorlos with them.
