I don't know how things like this work in these forums (pardon me; fora), but the list of running books dtoce compiled might be saved as a sticky or some other method that would be conveniently referred to.

Thanks for the list dtoce!

That was very generous of you Dale. You may know that I am a huge Daws fan, and often quote him in discussions about training. I have "The Self-Made Olympian" and have read it many, many times, but I would suggest you add Daws' other book "Running Your Best." He does a much better job of explaining WHY you do things and the basics of exercise physiology and the training guides are quite well done. For those of you unfamiliar with Daws, he was a Lydiard disciple, so if you follow Lydiard, you will love Daws. Many thanks for this list Dale; you are always contributing. Spareribs

I have the first two by Lydiard. I got them courtesy of Kim Stevenson, who lives in NZ. I also have Galloway, Pfitzinger, Daniels, Noakes, Beck and one on running form by a guy whose name escapes me at the moment. What is most interesting is how similar they all are, even Galloway. It suggests to me that there are no secrets left to uncover with respect to running and training.

Do you alphabetize by author or title here?

Seriously though if you want to fix it up and mail it to me I will edit the post...if Dale doesn't mind.

Hally, I would like to see them alpha order by author. Assigning Library of Congress Subject Headings and organizing by LC Classification might be going a bit too far! I can fix it but won't have time right now with the holidays. Maybe Dale has them organized in some way that only makes sense to him? biggrin.gif

Finn, I'd like to read that one.

Dale ... W-O-W. Thank you so much.

The Complete Guide to Running: How to be a Champion from 9 to 90, by Earl Fee (40 World Records in track events).

I am loving this book. There is a huge chapter on Pool Running which will make you question why you're not doing it more (esp. when you have strains and sprains), designing your own w/o's, physiological principles, on and on.

Awaiting the comeback of velour jumpsuit couture.

Running for Dummies by Florence Griffith Joyner

Hmmmm . . . Not sure how to take that biggrin.gif

Great Additions!!
Alphabetize away. These were only some suggestions. I didn't even include all the books I own. I will add/update over the weekend if I get a chance.
Maybe we should put an asterisk next to any book that is recommended by at least one reader to make it easier for anyone looking for books. Also, perhaps we could make a few comments about content or what we liked about a particuliar book...just thoughts...
(and my handwriting isn't that bad, FTR)

Hey, you librarians.

I'm keying Dale's recommendations into this:

http://www.librarything.com/catalog/arfenarf

Is it working?

I'm having trouble finding a few of the books. When I'm done keying, I'll post the Lost Ones.

Edited to add: I can't find the "Long Hard Road", "The Golden Mile", "the Fastest Old Man...", or "Arthur Lydiard Master Coach". ISBNs or other pointers appreciated.

Edited again to add: I've updated the view so it shows more books with less fancy-dancy cover art. If you want to see cover art, there are buttons that will help you smile.gif

Okay Dale, I'll give you a story about a book if you would like to hear a good one. We have a copy of "Once a Runner." It was given to my son Travis by a friend of our family. Inside the cover, this fine man had written a beautiful, warm and inspiring message, and Travis was very moved by the gift, and in particular by the personal message.

Later, we learned that the book had skyrocketed in value, and people were talking about how you could sell it on eBay for scads of money. Travis heard this and said, "I don't care. I will never sell this book."

So a few months ago Mrs. Ribs called me from a half-price bookstore and said, "Hey, they have the book here and it's 8 dollars. Should I buy it?" Duh, yeah. So she did. She sold it on Amazon this week for well over $200.

And of course Travis still has the precious book he will never sell. It was given to him by SkipAZ. Spareribs

Hey Sal, good idea about using librarything.com. I saw that once on a listserve but promptly forgot about it. Looks great! Can the link be added to your Boomer wiki?

Nice post, Ribs. Of course, it's little surprise that Skip would do such a kind thing.

How are you Skip, wherever you are?

Now I want that book too.

Awaiting the comeback of velour jumpsuit couture.

Nice story, SR.
MS, that is a very cool web site.
SS, if you'd like to read the fell running book I will send it to you; if so, email me your snail mail.
