Howdy Ron, and all who shall follow.
I uh.. can't remember the last time I ran at this point. Meh. That being said, per my request, we changed things up with physical therapy, taking out two exercises (adding others) to see if they were actually causing more problems than helping out the situation. So far, I think I made a wise choice. We took out lunges and this little side-step thing with a resistance band around my ankles. So far, the tight sciatic / piraformis area hasn't really been tight. Of course, that could also have something to do with the beating (an accurate term) that a substitute guy gave my piraformis on Friday. Tougher than any deep tissue massage I've ever had, and I like to think that I am tough, but holy frijoles, that HURT!
Saturday I wanted to try a new class that they're introducing at the gym called Pound. All I knew is that it involved drumsticks. Holy cow, that was MUCH harder than I thought it would be, but it was loads of fun. I substituted center squats for any place that we lunged in class, but it still worked out well. Yesterday? Helloooooooo obliques. Oofth! I really recommend the class for anyone interested though. I cannot mentally get into pilates and yoga, but the instructor for this class basically called it "pilates on crack with cardio". Since I'm distracted with loud music and drumsticks, this works for me.
..just in case anyone has no idea what I'm talking about
In other news, little Gypsi is still confusing the snot out of me. Her specialist appointment let us know that she has several heart issues, and the lack of appetite was likely due to serious kidney damage (either from just being old, or from the heart medication.) We did a little switcharoo on meds, and although I was still having to force-feed her stinky cat food, her energy and attitude is almost back to normal. Bloodwork from Friday indicated that both levels of the "concerned about it" stuff had gone down... yet, she still doesn't really care about food, and force-feedings are still required. She's shown the occasional interest in cheerios / sugar smacks (fed to her one at a time), her Pupperoni sticks, and against my wishes, she scarfed up 1/8 of a salty pringle chip that made it to the floor.
At this point, I'm waiting to hear back from vet to see if we continue the current path for another week and do more bloodwork to reassess. Feeding time is so traumatic at the house now (she shakes and tries to get away from me at times), but 15 minutes later, all is well. She runs. She cuddles. She hops around and even does her excited dog dance when she wants to go outside. For a pooch that a week ago, I'd swear was on her deathbed, she's made a great turnaround, but I am concerned about level of kidney function. Hopefully it's just a matter of time for things to balance out a little more... The feeding thing does stress her out, but otherwise, she seems to still be happy girl and there is most certainly a good quality of life for her. (man, I wish our furbabies could speak the same language so this wasn't a guessing game!)
So.. enough about me.. (insert Joey Tribiani voice) How YOU doin?
I see last week there was talk about the awesomeness of knitting scarves and hats, Kath has an upcoming show, Bob is still waiting on Boston news, and there was some strange conversations involving the art of running with dog poop!
