I've been getting these from some sneaky fuckernutter for the past few weeks.  It's been **** near every day, sometimes multiple times, usually around the same time of day. I tend not to pick up when i dont know who's calling and they never leave a voicemail, so I assume it's not all that important and figured it was some sort of persnickety telemarketer.  But my curiousity is starting to get the best of me and I'm contemplating answering the next time!.....and having some fun with them if it turns out to be a pointless call of course.  What say the PRT? Anybody else get these?

Just ignore it.

We get that all the time.  We use our answering machine to screen anything we don't recognize.  A lot of them are computer dialed and then when you pick  up someone at the other end is finally connected and they try and sell to you.

I didn't think you'd mind.

And...there's something really important that I need to tell you that I can't leave as a message.

I work from home more often now and I noticed these calls as well.  Actually, I noticed them before because my answering machine picks up just in time for them to hang up.  So I have 8 messages, none of which have any content.

So anyway, working from, I noticed the calls were from unavailable as well and at first I didn't answer.  Then I started answering and before they could say much I would ask, "Are you selling something?  Because if you are, you should also know that I'm on the Do Not Call List."  They would immediately apologize and say there were taking me off the list.  Surprisingly, my phone has quit ringing.

I got a couple of those on my cell phone.  Finally I answered.  It was a robo-call, telling me that they needed to conect me to a "secure line" because there was a problem with my debit card and it was going to be frozen.  NOT SO FAST!!!  I don't give out my cell phone number.  I called the number on my Visa card.  Nope, no problem with my account.  AND nope, they don't even have my cell phone number.  So certainly not from them!

Go to

800notes.com

or

whocalled.us

Put the phone number in, and you might be able to see a little info about the number.

I almost never answer my phone unless I happen to be looking at call display in the den and recognize who it is.

This past week I have gotten an average of 35 calls per day...and I have had 3 messages left.

A couple of my phones don't have volume control on the ringers and they are loud. Since I don't answer the phone I wonder why I have 5 of them in the house. :D

Isn't a conundrum one of those things you use for safe sex?

I never answer my house phone.

If anyone (thankfully no one) wants to get a hold of me they have my cell number.

With 4 cell phones in the house, I am debating why I have a home phone.

Has anyone canceled their home phone service?

Right here, boss. I actually haven't had a landline phone since 2002.

We have a land line and cell phones.  We have thought about ditching the land line, but for mostly sentimental reasons, have kept it.

On our landline we have that annoying electronic voice that announces who is calling.

It makes me chuckle when it says Un-A-vail-able.

If you cancel the home phone  there is one thing to remember. 911 calls from your home line are sent to your local police/sheriff's department and will give us your address automatically. If you call 911 from your cellphone depending on where you are it may go to another agency depending on where the cell site is before it goes to the correct agency. It could delay a response in getting help to you. That being said i canceled my homeline about 2 years ago and haven't had a problem with it.

Do you guys who have ditched your land line have a "secure" or encrypted cell line?

Do you give out personal information, like your SSN (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is) over the phone?
