» NYC Marathon Official Acceptance! |
|
May 08, 2008 - 8:52 PM - by Doctor Wu
|
I just got the email that I'm in as a "guaranteed entrant." I guess being slightly faster than the average 50+YO male has it's advantages.
Dear (Doctor Wu),
We are pleased to confirm that you have been accepted for entry into the 2008 ING New York City Marathon. Our records have been updated to reflect your acceptance. Your entry number... [Read More]

» How does one run around & around & around? |
|
May 08, 2008 - 3:43 PM - by mudrunner
|
Looking for advice.
My next race is a 24 run on a 4.5km course....part track, part trail.
Anything I should know as far as set-up? I will probably bring a large rubbermaid for food, extra clothes, footcare, etc..., a couple of chairs, & maybe a small tent (for the crew).
Is there really that much of a difference from running a point to point 100? Aside from the fact that the crew doesn't have to drive at breakneck speeds just to wait interminably at the next aid station,... [Read More]

In what appears to be shaping up as the summer of long distance records, I had the privledge to ask Dr. Horton a few questions about his fast approaching
Continental Divide Trail Record Attempt.

» Muscle recovery ? |
|
May 08, 2008 - 2:00 PM - by RichardC
|
As I look at my training schedule I am very excited about weeks and weeks of long runs some being doubled up. I truly do enjoy time spent on the trails. What is the number one thing to keep in mind for recovery of muscles... Sleep I can tell is on the top or very near the top of the list from what I have read.. seems some post run protien is a good choice.. as well as ice and Ibuprofen. Is there other tips? what about some of that recovery formula from Succeed?
Thanks in advance.

» Training Plan Advice: MCM Oct '08 |
|
May 07, 2008 - 11:51 PM - by CoyoteMark
|
It looks like many here are using the Pfitz plans. I have basically been winging it for my first two marathons, and am looking for some advice on what might work well for my next.
MCM '08 will be my third marathon. My goal time is sub 4:22 (10min/mi).
Here is where I am at:
Prior Marthon results: MCM '06 in 4:34, Big Sur '08 in 4:28
MCM '06 Training: Higdon Beginner II plan, compressed into 12 weeks rather than 16, with a bit of speed training-... [Read More]

» Ultra list in 2008 |
|
May 07, 2008 - 1:48 PM - by roots
|
I just received an email that my list subscription expired. After two years of following the list from 2005-2007, I stopped the digest messages last June after Mohican. Now, the listserv terminated me. I haven't really missed it since I haven't trained for ultras since then.
I figure this forum keeps me up to date on enough ultra news, and also when Ultrarunning magazine arrives, I get a better read without knowing most all the results beforehand.
What have... [Read More]

So here is the list I have so far of folks who wanted to keep each other accountable for late summer/fall marathons. Since it is a little early, I have many who have not posted info as far as training plan or goal races, which is fine--as we go along we can fill that in or delete as needed. Let me know if I've made a mistake on the information.

» Opinions/Comments/experience of Berlin Marathon ? |
|
May 06, 2008 - 3:13 PM - by Irish Eyes
|
Hi,having (just about) recovered from my disappointing Boston marathon I'm now thinking of getting back on the horse and going for an Autumn race and a better time.
I am tempted by the Berlin marathon which is a good fit in terms of date and ease of travel.
Before I sign up I just wondered if anyone out there had any experience, thoughts , comments etc that they'd like to share.
Thanks a million,
derek
